It's a wound in her side. Her hand is covered in blood after she tries to press down on it to stop the bleeding. It's not entirely clear when she's hit though.

When she's in the dining room and there is one of Silva's guards across from her as she hides behind an outcrop of the lodge whilst shooting at him, and she either is shot by him in the choas in what look likes through her kidney area so mass of bleeding, or wounded by shrapnel from the lodge hiting her in the fire fight, but I assume it's an unfortunate bullet from Silva's man, which is more heartbreaking - she is killed by one of the men not even bothered about her, and it's all by chance the bullet hits as she fights to protect herself from her actually hunter.

Sad when you think about it more than just Silva taking his calcuated revenge, which is why I actually think he's concerned about seeing her injury towards the end as he didn't want suffering, just a clean shot to end her years of misjustice, in which he probably thinks he is actually helping her through.

I hate Silva more actually...that was no way for a woman of M's age and career to bow out on..!

Internal bleeding most likely. The initial shock may have slowed down the actual process. With the continued excertion the blood loss increased until not even a paramedic team could have prevented the inevitable.

And she walks a heck of a long way too, in her condition. She fought to the end.

I see. The photography's very dark in those scenes. So she isn't hurt in her hand?

No, she is just putting pressure on the wound, so when Silva takes her hand, sees the blood where she has been holding, he figures she is wounded.

The would looks nastier than a simple bullet entrance wound but it could be that smudged blood makes it look worse. She probably stood as long as she did merely because of sheer nerve juice and when the situation relaxed her collapse was swift. The scene and how she functioned is not that farfetched really, the history of warfare is filled with similar stories.

I love the way she tried to hide it "Are you hurt" "No, only my pride, I never was very good with a gun" (paraphrase)

There's a shot of her getting hit. There's the exchange of gunfire and then it cuts to the bullets from Silva's man splintering through the wood that she is behind.

It's a dark shot - I'll give you that. Well, it's not as if there were lots of bright lights on...

It's a great shot. (Errr, no pun intended.)

It's designed to make you miss it the first time, then whenever you go back to it, it's a definite 'hand over mouth' moment. Had the desired effect on me.

The only problem I have with that is that I thought she was hit on her right-hand side when that shot was fired inside the lodge, and she later holds her bleeding left-hand side. Will give it a further look on third viewing though.

Think about it. She has her back to the wall. Turns to her left and shoots the pistol. Silva's man returns fire so M recoils back to her right, therefore her left side is exposed. Bam!
