Skyfall is a beautiful film, and is littered with beautiful moments. My question is though, what scenes did you like best? Here's a few of mine.
  • The entire enquiry scene I thought was brilliantly shot. My favourite part of the film though, was when M was reciting Tennyson, intercut with Bond running through the streets of London to save her. Absolutely beautiful editing.
  • Double Suicide / M's death - Silva and M in the chapel was easily the most tense and emotional scene in the series. I knew way before hand that M was going to die. I heard that she got shot, and I seriously expected a double suicide when Silva forced the gun into her hand. What makes it more heartbreaking was M scolding Bond afterwards for being late. Her final words were heartbreaking. Phenomenal acting. So sad.
  • The final scene. Again, nearly cried with happiness. Hearing the Bond theme build up, and the new M standing in his office, was just beautiful.
  • The Aston Martin DB5 reveal. No joke. I cried with happiness at that. Made me so proud to be a Bond fan. Also, Bond threatening M with the ejector seat was priceless.
  • Bond meets Silva - Wow. Very well written and sexually charged scene. One of the best villain intro's, personally. In fact, I'll have to say that the entire Hashima sequence is one of the best scenes. The glass on Sevérines head seemed classic Fleming to me. Made even creepier by the 60's music.
Honourable mentions:
  • M firing a gun. Because seriously. How cool.
  • "Open the door please." - "...." - "OPEN. THE DOOR."
  • Bond getting back into shape and the word association game.
  • Bond meeting Q in the national gallery.
  • M and Mallory scenes.

I loved the slow reveal of Silva, exciting the lift and walking closer and close towards the camera. Beautifully shot.

I'd have to say one of my favourite scenes was the scene between Bond and Eve in the Macau hotel bedroom, where they were flirting. It made me think of the classic Bond/ Bond girl scenes. I also liked it because of the jokey remarks Bond and Eve gave each other about her shooting him. I also love the fact they left us thinking "Did they or didn't they?"

Good, classic writing!

For me, that would be:
* Silva's introduction and chit-chat with Bond
* The shave scene between Eve and Bond

Silva's introduction and monologue was phenominal for an entrace - and all in one take!

I'll have to come back with a few more, but that for me on the island was outstanding - the whole sequence.

For me it has to be the last moments, Bond walking into that classic MI6 office to see the brand new M. It was just magical.

For me it was that moment of resurrection - we know Bond's unfit for duty, that he's been captured and just witnessed the death of Severine. He's taunted by the villain and responds by dispatching all of Silva's henchmen in seconds with huge economy. I thought, 'yeah, he's back!'

Silva's entrance was brilliant.

Bond/M in the DB5 with the classic theme in the background - priceless.

The last scene in the old school office, with Moneypenny and a male M! I just wanted Bond 24 to come on immediately.

The last seconds of the movie where Mallory hands Bond a new case file and the word 'Blofeld' is visible on it...

... n'ah. I dreamed that one. ;)

The close shave. The DB5´s machine guns. New M´s office. Everything at Skyfall. Bond´s exiting the bulding in Istambul. The Enquiry and Mallorys interrupting the minister. Silva taking off the mouth aparatus. Severine´s back story. Oh my, there are too many scenes to choose.

SIlva's introduction/monologue must be one of the greatest entries of a villain in cinematic history.

Ok, some of the best scenes I can recall for me are:
  • Silva's introduction and monologue, all done in one take.
  • The final moments of the pre-title sequence on the train roof - one of the greatest tense, scored moments in a Bond film
  • The London chase - superb tension and cat and mouse qualities between Bond and Silva
  • The final few moments - back to basics, and it feels so good for the future

There's dozens more sequences and scenes, but they stuck out for me on first viewing.

I would like to add to all those mentioned brilliant scenes:

- the "Bond-in-darkness-and-confused by-mirrors-stalking of Patrice", a hugely atmospheric and, IMO, very frightening sequence
- Bond meeting Q in the National Gallery
- Silva revealing what the suicide attempt has made of him

Yeah, the Silva isolation scene was brilliant. As far as 'suicide' scenes go though. How tense was the near double suicide with Silva and M? I was literally sitting hand over mouth.

Oh, yes. That was so shocking - and moving as well. I think Silva works so magnificently as a villain because one also really feels sorry for him.

I thought that was it...I was tensing myself for a shot or something....but our man gets there at the nick of time.

Still, it was just bursting with tension and emotion and I love the fact Silva doesn't shoot Kincade like the usual bad guy would just pop a bullet in him. The fact he kept him alive to see it, and just to not try anything was almost heartbreaking he was being forced into the situation and he couldn't do anything. As you say SAF, his actions then make you think...he's not ALL bad, is he? Just doing what any other scorned man would do with his availiable power, muscle and betrayal.

Just, wow.

No volcanic lairs or mystical fortresses for this finale please - a remote, dark and eerie Chapel on the Scottish moors is a total winner for a memorable showdown.

True. The way Silva just puts Kincaid in limbo also shows how little he means to him. This is all about M and Silva.

And that´s the great way SKYFALL uses and re-invents the classic Bond showdown. Instead of having Bond attacking the villain´s lair, the villain attacks Bond´s hiding place. And instead of Bond saving the world he eliminates the threat but with a high personal cost. Terrific.

Less is more, and in this case it's a perfect example for a finale. Less characters, less nonsense - just baren land, sparse scenery and powerful dialogue and big action.

Just going back off track as you've just reminded me about Kincade, did any of your audiences pick up on him calling M "Emma" after Bond's introduction, or nothing?

Nothing at my cinema, except my little chuckle - don't know if they thought he was just senile or they thought she was actually called Emma. *tut*

That's a terrific scene: he was amazing. And somehow the story he tells feels exactly like a slice of Fleming to me.

And who didn't punch the air inside when we found out the DB5 still has its machine guns? :)

I love all the scenes mentioned.

But I also love the "Wilhelm Tell"-scene on Silva's island.
One feels so sorry for Severine, as you can see in her eyes that she knows, that she is going to be shot in a few seconds. What great acting from Bérénice Marlohe.

Bond meeting the Quartermaster scene was just brilliant. A real "brains vs brawn" dialogue when looking at the painting. "I just see big boats" says Bond. Brilliant.

All fairly obvious I'm afraid but for the record:

- breakneck speed of the opening Turkey sequence
- Q briefs Bond at the National Gallery
- Bond fights Patrice in silhouette in Shanghai tower
- tracking shot of Bond walking around Macau casino talking to Eve
- Silva introduces himself to Bond for the first time
- M's Tennyson monologue as Bond pursues Silva
- Aston Martin DB5 is unveiled in the storage garage
- Silva approaches Skyfall in the helicopter
- Bond reacts to destruction of the DB5 and sets explosives
- final scenes with Bond, Moneypenny and the new M

Interesting how many of the favourite scenes incorporate long singular shots, or even single takes - how brilliant is the cast and crew to make them so effective and not have to use cuts as much as others?
