A funny little thing I noticed in 'Skyfall' [SPOILERS]

Aside from the fact that Bond's childhood is deeply explored for the first time, with huge chunks of the film dealing with the psychological implications of his parents having died, it's also said that Judi Dench's M was chief of Station H in Hong Kong in between 1986 and 1997, so unless GoldenEye is set two years after it was released, this once again fractures the idea that she's Pierce's old boss and that Dan is just the new guy using a codename.
Funny.

Compared to Bond #3 visiting the grave of the wife of Bond #2, this is only a minor paradox, and requires only a minor refinement to the theory. Obviously Dench is playing two different characters. From 1995 to 2002 she played Barbara Mawdsley, and from 2006 to 2012 she has played Barbara's twin sister Brenda Mawdsley, who used to run the Hong Kong branch, but who took over the London office after Barbara ran off and started a lesbian coven with Moneypenny #3.

Gothamite, you disappoint me.

I'd pay to see a film version of that!

Frankly however, the Codename Theory has ALWAYS been ludicrous to me. I'm glad that this film will FINALLY obliterate it completely...

It completely eradicates the Codename Theory forever. It literally can stand up no longer.
Fittingly, put to rest by the sight of a tombstone.

Indeed. I took it more to mean that she was supervising intelligence agents during the Hong Kong handover. That may mean she was the station chief, or simply a senior member of staff temporarily sent over from London to supervise proceedings.I don't think it does say was head of Hong Kong section does it? Just that all of the sections report back to her.

I just thought she was M, to be honest. She's in charge of agents all around the world, surely?

Agreed. Nothing definitive, either way so nothing to hand one's hat on. Not that any of this stuff matters in fiction land.
