Anyone else tried to read this series? I am on the first one now, and I don't think I will continue on with the series. I just am not really connecting with the characters and it is taking me months to get through this book because some days I just won't want to read it, while other days I don't care as much. I was wondering if anyone else felt the same way about this book since every time i talk to people about this series they tell me that it is really good and that I have no taste...
In general - forget about what other people tell you you ought to read. Life is much too short to spend it with things that are a chore for you. And not liking a book - or anything else - doesn't mean it's not good, or you're too whatever to really appreciate it. It simply means something doesn't appeal to you. So what? Most things aren't for everybody. And what appeals to you needn't appeal to others.
That said I nonetheless suggest you give a book a chance, say the first 100 pages or the the first quarter. Try to accept a story's premise and its characters, try to get a feel for the whole story. If you don't want to know what happens to the protagonists after that first effort - move on.

I considered this series to see what it's about but I'm just not into the fantasy stuff. And reading it because others swear it's great does nothing to nudge me into a genre I never read. You gave it a shot. If it doesn't work on you then don't waste your time. Besides, you have all those Fleming books to get started on!

I think I am on page 300 something. I mean I definitely gave the story a chance, I just don't think it is my type of book. I hate leaving a book unfinished though, so I have to finish it. After that I might move on and read Casino Royale or I still have to read Sherlock Holmes Stories Volume 1 or the Great Gatsby.
You're like me, in that once I've invested in a book it's hard to toss it aside without finishing it. I guess my dad just taught me to neve give up!
It sounds like you have a good selection awaiting your attention. I'm an equally big Holmes fan and have enjoyed those stories time and again. I hope you do too.
