Hi. I'm holding a surprise fancy dress 40th birthday party for my husband who LOVES Bond and was hoping you guys could give me some ideas.

I thought I could go for a Casino Royale theme but am open to other ideas if anyone has any, which I'm sure you do :)

So far, I have designed a bond invitation. I haven't worked out yet how to upload a picture of the invite but will do as soon as I can. Any suggestions on improvements would be gratefully received. I'm looking for a better Bond font so if anyone knows of any please do let me know.

I am going to try and rent a bond style suit (like this one Posted Image ) for him to wear on the night and I'm trying to source some green (possibly felt) table cloths with casino game layouts on them like poker etc (like this sort of thing here - does anyone know where ot get these cheap?) on them to be used either as table cloths for the buffet and / or as party games afterwards (obviously not betting with money or chips as I would need a license for that). I'm also trying to get hold of some red material to make a red carpet out of. We will be having a bar where I am hoping to serve vodka martinis, shaken, not stirred as well as other cocktails.

What I'd like to know is... if you were having / arranging your very own James Bond party, what would you like to have there? How would you arrange it? Could be related to the Casino Royale theme... or not!

Thanks in advance

I'm sure they'd allow you to gamble with chips for a private party without a licence, what sort of venue are you thinking? Private house or somewhere hired? Also, what country are you from?

Thanks for your response. Still haven't worked out how to upload a picture from my computer. I am from the UK and have rented the local social centre so definitely very private. I could buy some fake gold coins to gamble with perhaps. Close enough to chips :)

UK, good. Well, you can buy some pretty decent poker sets that come with chips - www.argos.co.uk/static/Search/searchTerms/POKER.htm which will be legal to use, if you're worried just use the chips as chips and don't exchange any monies.

I'd see if you could hire a screen and projector and either loop Casino Royale, or have scenes from different Bond films playing in the background.

Maybe do something like a murder mystery weekend, but instead of a murderer, have someone be the Bond villain and your husband, as Bond, has to work out who he/she is before the end of the night.

Bond Song karaoke is always fun, and maybe a "Bond one liner competition".

Other than that, you have the cocktails, gambling and music - and obviously you're going to be the Bond girl - I reckon you have the night pretty much sorted.

Only other thing I can think of, is having one of the guests being Q and handing him the presents at the end of the night.

And before I forget, if your budget stretches, you should try and hire a Bond car for him to either arrive at the event or leave at the end. Aston Martins, Bentleys etc are always good.

Music: raid your husbands soundtrack collection (I'm assuming he has one) and make a playlist of theme instrumentals and background clubbing tracks. DAF and OHMSS particularly are loaded with them, as are FYEO and NSNA. It means a lot of listening but hey, you'll enjoy it, and it would be more original than just blaring out the title themes endlessly.

You should be able to buy a blackjack tablecloth at any gentlemen's novelty shop.

As for games, why not have each guest choose a character to impersonate, and it will be your husband's job to guess who they're playing?

Just a few quick ideas before I nod off.

Thanks so much for your replies and sorry for the delay in replying. I can read posts while hubby is around but not looking but replying is a little more tricky.

The Argos poker sets look good. I think I'm going to pop in today and have a look at them. Think we will use chips afterall. It will make the experience much more authentic. I have found some sets on ebay too :) Might have to read up on how to play casino games as well.

I'm not sure where I can get my hands on a projector and screen to be honest but it's a great idea. I'd rather borrow one but there must be somewhere I can rent one from if worst comes to the worst. We have a box set of all but the last two Bond films so we will start with Casino Royale and then use some of the others. Could also use if for the Karaoke.

I've never been on a murder mystery weekend but will do some research to see how it works. Guests will all be asked to come in fancy dress although it will not be obligatory obviously so perhaps we could do a guess the Bond constume competition / best Bond costume, best bond girl / villain etc.

I'm sure he would love me to hire a Bond car for the evening / arrival but the centre is literally 30 seconds walk from our house so probably a bit OTT for this occasion although perhaps I could look into renting one for the day after and go and do something nice together.

Music - sorted. He has a few theme track cds that I just need to sort through.

Thanks again for allt he ideas and if anyone has any more...
