Im pretty sure that im not the only one who hates the fact that the Fleming adaptations do not follow the original stories very well! To tell you all the truth, it p****s me off!!

I think that the movies such as Moonraker and Diamonds Are Forever would have been so much better if they had followed the novels.

Anyway, if you could re-make any of the movies so that they would closely mirror the novels, which ones would you do and how would you do it?

Moonraker is at the top of my list. Followed by The Man With The Golden Gun, You Only Live Twice.

I'll agree with Moonraker and TMWTGG. I think DAF would be difficult to translate into an intersting film.

id do them all again, but for television, i prefer the films to be the epic outlandish types that we have. but flemings books would make great tele movies.

My first would be Casino Royale (but would that really be a remake, since it never really was made into a serious film on the screen?), followed by Moonraker (mostly because that was just an awful film).

Well, the "Die Another Day" movie sounds VERY similar to the "Moonraker" novel. Rosamund Pike has even said repeatedly that her character's name was originally going to be Gala Brand. Gustav Graves' character is very similar to that of Sir Hugo Drax's in the "MR" book. And in the novel, Bond goes up against Drax in cards at Blades, which is very similar to what's happening in the movie -- don't want to spoil it for anyone who hasn't seen the clips yet. :)

I think Bond 21 or 22 should be something like Gardner's "Nobody Lives Forever," with some secret organization out to get him and Bond on the run the whole movie.

I agree with Brendan007 -- they should remake all of the Fleming novels into movies! Maybe on TV, but they'd have to edit out the gratuitous sex and violence (ugh, that was NSNA-like)...

Anyone for 'Colonel Sun'? A fantastic novel...let's see that up on screen.

Ive always said what you haave Trevelyan that DAD is a faithful remake of Fleming's Moonraker novel.

Have you all forgotten You Only Live Twice? Shatterhand's plot is simply to watch people die! He's a fantasticly evil villain.

It's true. From London on, DAD is VERY similar to the Moonraker novel.

It's LTK meets MR novel with a dash of TND mixed in.

As it turns out, "DAD" is actually a mix of the "Moonraker" novel and the "DAF" movie. Sattelite with diamonds blowing stuff up, just with better special effects than what they did in '71.

Is it just me or does "LTK" resemble Fleming's TMWTGG in the way Bond comes under Scaramanga's wing and creates dissent among him and his colleagues? It was so apparent to me that as I was reading the novel, the picture in my head of Fleming's Scaramanga was Sanchez from "LTK!"

Yes, I've thought the same thing. LTK is a lot like the TMWTGG novel.

Okay, LTK is a mix of TMWTGG and LALD novels with a dash of The Hilderbrand Rarity mixed in. (This is fun :))

What about Bond 21 and beyond? Do you think they should start adapting the Gardner, Markham and Benson novels? The EON Producers would have enough material to take them beyond Bond 30 and possibly further.

Ive always thought that instead of struggling to find plots and missions for a Cold War hero now that the cold war is over, the writers and producers should look at the other Bond stories.

I think For Special Services, Win, Lose or Die, Nobody Lives Forever, Colonel Sun and The Facts of Death would make damn good Bond movies and for the first time in a long time we could return to the Bond basics of

BOND GOING ON A MISSION BECAUSE BRITIAN AND/OR AN ALLY HAS BEEN THREATENED!!!

Its about time!

hmm, i've heard that before...lol! i'm a great advocate for Gardner's and Benson's novels being made into films, heck i could even adapt one myself. a few points about this though - as DAD sounds like MR, the villain Tarn in Gardner's "seafire" sounds suspiciously like Zorin in AVTAK, which may ruin it somewhat. aside from that, as double oh ten says, i'm all for titles like Win, Lose or Die and The Facts of Death being adapted cos they'd make d*mn good movies!! is there any way we can get a petition going, and maybe present that to MGM/Eon?
