I recently set myself the task of devising magnificent middle names for our hero and came up with a short list of 13 alternatives!
Names such as-
James Montgomery Bond
James Sinclair Bond
James Sutherland Bond
James Cornelius Bond
James Golden Silver Bond
James Isaac Jeremiah Bond
James Sterling Bond
(for full list see my blog - www.theoryofnames.com)
What's your favourite? What magnificent alternatives can you come up with?
Thanks!

Nice idea. Canonically I believe he has no middle name, I think it's mentioned in The Man with the Golden Gun when he's thinking about the knighthood. He's happy being plain old James Bond, no middle name etc. Filmwise, I don't think it's been addressed.

To add to your list, I'd suggest James Lancaster Bond, after Ian Lancaster Fleming or James Andrew Bond, taking his father's first name as his middle name.

I was just about to suggest "James Andrew Bond". It would have to be something dull and unremarkable, since that was the criterion that led to Fleming's choosing "James Bond" in the first place. He wanted something totally unromantic.

James Bond does not have a middle name as far as the books go. But I would bet it would be "Ian"

I agree, Andrew is the logical choice. Sometimes the mother's maiden name is used as a middle name for a child, so I'm thinking James Delacroix Bond. But JC and Secret007 are right about Fleming stating that Bond had no middle name. But it's still a fun thing to play with :)

I thought his middle name was James. You know: Bond James Bond.

Something about "Duncan" sort of seems to fit. James Duncan Bond.

As suggested, Andrew is the only logical choice. Very english to re-use first names in the family, either as the first or second name. And something about 'James Andrew Bond' just seems to fit perfectly.

Exactly, my middle name is my Dad's first name, his dads first name is his middle name etc.

Same here. Didn't work out very well for me though...

Yes, that 'H' makes all the difference, doesn't it?

I've thought about this in the past and always just surmised he didn't have one. If I were to give him one it would be Ian or Lancaster for commemorative reasons but I'm sure Fleming never would have considered using any of his own names for his character. The idea of Andrew is the most suitable one.

James Bond does not have a middle name. Confirmed by the aurthority of the Ian Fleming novels and short stories.

Mere speculation on something that doesn't even exist!

No middle name. End of.

It's quite apparent he doesn't have one, officially.

The theme of the thread is more speculative game than trying to find his actual middle name, which is impossible because it's just not there. We Bond fans get bored and anything Bond-related to help pass the time leading up to Skyfall is a worthy endeavour.

How usual is it for a person from the UK not to have a middle name?

Perhaps it's "Evelyn", and that's why he never uses it.

Maybe 'James' is actually his middle name, which opens up the possibility that his full name is, in actual fact, Peter James Bond.

This is unlikely, however, since Peter James Bond spontaneously combusted in 1977 at the Isle Of Lucy 'Blues-Jazz Festival'.

Andrew is a good one, I never thought about Bond having a middle name before and now and I can't help notice how unusual it is that he doesn't have one.

I believe I'm the only one in this thread to have made a jokey reference to This Is Spinal Tap. I also believe that I'm the only one who actually gets the reference. :(
