Charlie Higson on writing an adult Bond novel.
"I'd like to write a book about Bond's war years, because I don't think anyone has written about that." Fleming wrote little on Bond's career in the navy, except that he became a lieutenant in 1941 and ended as a commander.
Higson and Anthony Horowitz also dismiss most of the continuation novels: "few authors who tried to continue Fleming's series had captured the essence of the original." (not Higson's words, the reporter's paraphrase.)
Charlie Higson's future adult Bond plans?

Ooh it's nice to hear that Higson would be interested in that; it's something we've often talked about on here and hoped he would do. Someone christened it 'War Bond' which is rather fun.
I very much hope that Higson returns to Bond at some point: he's the only post-Fleming author to actually get it. And doing Bond's war years seems the best way to do it: it's something Fleming didn't do so there would be an actual point to it. Any author who writes a straight Bond novel is just competing with Fleming, and that's a battle they'll never win.

No interest in this? I'm surprised.
I see Higson's starting a new initiative to tweet Fleming's 007 books!

A lot of interest in this! I'm just not sure how this tallies with IFP's recent hiring of Boyd for an adult novel for the 60th anniversary of CASINO ROYALE. Also there is the sad fact that any announcement from IFP about a comeback of Higson would probably come over a year in advance, so IF Higson gets his go at "War Bond" it would likely still be a long way down the line. If memory serves about a year ago Higson confirmed IFP were looking for another guy to pick up Young Bond, as "they couldn't wait forever" or words to the same effect. It would be splendid if that situation had changed now, but I don't see as yet how that could have happened. Higson is involved in a number of projects that probably leave him little time to revisit Bond, young or adult or senior.

Yes, it's nice to see they're still hiring him to do Bond stuff.
