Just a new topic for those of us that love The Spy Who Loved Me. In my opinion, it has the best mix of everything that makes Bond great: inconic locales, gadgets, plot, villain, humor, drama, action and girls. Barbara Bach is brilliant as Anya, Kurt Jurgens' Stromberg is one of Bond's greatest foes, the submarine car, the skydive in the PTS, Carly Simon etc. etc. While it is one of the more OTT entires, TSWLM stands (at least for me) as the most fun Bond film. It's deep and action-filled, but at the same time never takes itself too seriously (I'm looking at you TWINE and LTK).

One of my all-time faves, both of Moore's and just generally.

It's amazing how people are so quick to dis DAD's invisible Aston Martin, yet will accept a GFRP-bodied Lotus packed with enough gear to convert it into an armed dry-submersible - thrity-five years ago! Video camoflage is already being perfected, yet Wet Nellie remains the stuff of fantasy.

Still, love the movie, love the car, love that James...

Believe it or not, I always enjoy the MR PTS more then TSWLM's, perhaps because it has Jaws. I just find it exciting.

Ya the car chase is one of the best in the series if you ask me.

I love how you see Jaws swimming away like Darth Vader after the Death Star explosion.

Strange, in that they came out only 2 months apart. Wonder if that was added as a result of that scene. Jaws was meant to die in the original script. As for the PTS, I like MR's too. It's weird though that as far as the rest of Moonraker is concerned, falling out of an airplane without a parachute seems relatively tame.

I didn't realize they're release dates were so close, and I never noticed the connection until now, I wonder did they know Jaws was going to return in MR when they shot him swimming away....

This is also one of my all time favorite Bond movies because I loved Barbara Bach. She is gorgeous in that dress that she wears to that one guys club. I wanted to be like her when I first saw the movie.

Easily one of the very best 007 adventures. It's just perfectly mixed pop entertainment that celebrates the best things about James Bond, a movie just breezes along with panache and style. I used to be fairly mixed on Marvin Hamlisch's musical score, but these days I think it's one of the most inspired in the series.

While I've always enjoyed Roger Moore as Bond, The Spy Who Loved Me really struck the best balance with its approach to the material, and it brought out the best in Moore.

The only weak link, in my opinion, is the villain. Stromberg just doesn't interest me much as a villain, and I don't find him remotely as appealing as, say, Scaramanga or Hugo Drax.

I think the reason Stromberg may not be totally interesting is his simple lack of screen time. I think his total screen time is like 12 minutes. But for those few minutes he is, he comes off as a cerebral maniac a la Auric Goldfinger.

That's a fair point. I do really enjoy the moment where Bond meets Stromberg and attempts to shake his hand, and Stromberg just reacts with that quietly offended "did no one warn you?" look in his eyes while putting his fingertips together.

I agree he needed more screentime.

The more I think about this one, the more I like it. If nothing else it delivers, really delivers, on everything you'd expect it to. I can't imagine anyone walked away from THE SPY WHO LOVED ME disappointed. It might even be the one. The arch-type Bond film.

One of the best title themes of the whole series. It is pure Bond through and through.

Definitely a good one for sure, but I've always preferred Live and Let Die and For Your Eyes Only over it.

One of the rare Bond films that has me grinning from ear-to-ear throughout. Goldfinger's probably the only other one. In terms of light, broad Bond, those two films hit the sweet spot better than any others. That doesn't make then better than the likes of FRWL or OHMSS, but they are more superficially entertaining.

I agree. FRWL might be a better spy story, but TSWLM is a more satisfying film. Also, I cannot for the life of me figure out why Moonraker was chosen for 007 Legends over The Spy Who Loved Me. You have the option for one of, if not, the BEST Bond film and instead opt for one of, if not, the WORST Bond film.

Yeah the Spy who Loved Me would have made a great bond level in this game.

Don't know if you've seen this - really fantastic actually. Glad they cut it out as it just doesn't seem right for Moore.

Not one of my favorites, but still classic Bond.

Haha I wasn't expecting that, but that definitely was good editing.
