I present to you Thailand's translation of the title of the latest Bond adventure...

Skyfall: Plick rahat pikard payak rai (Twisting the Bad Tiger's Killing Code)

For those of you who don't know, James Bond is nicknamed "payak rai" (The Bad Tiger) in Thailand, because a tiger symbolises a womanizer. We've had a history of giving Bond films ridiculous titles, my favourites include "The Bad Tiger Extinguishes World Domination Plan" (The World is not Enough), "The Queen's Supreme Tiger" (On Her Majesty's Secret Service) and "The Bad Tiger's World Rattling Revenge" (Quantum of Solace).

Those outside the Anglosphere, what's Skyfall called in your country?

It's Skyfall. Since Casino Royale (2006) they haven't translated the titles of Bond films into finnish.

Well, nothing like that over in the UK... we just get 'Skyfall'.

Well, I guess in France we'll just get "Skyfall" like we got "CR" and "QoS".

But come to think of it, the funny thing is that this coming Bond is just nowhere to be seen in France: zero news whatsoever. If it were not for CBn, I wouldn't even know there's a new Bond coming.

It's Skyfall. Since Casino Royale (2006) they haven't translated the titles of Bond films into finnish.

Same in Italy. Well, there's isn't much to translate about Casino Royale, as it's the name of the place, and if Skyfall's the name of the mission it wouldn't make sense to translate as well.
Thunderball was translated as Thunderball: Operazione Tuono (Thunderball: Operation Thunder).

In India, we don't get translations into regional languages. Maybe it happens in some of the tier 2 cities & towns, but as far as I know, its Skyfall. Though I'd love to see literal translations of Bond film titles in India's various regional languages. I'll search for some & post them here. It'll be funny, I'm sure.

Oh, by the way, 97% of people that I've met have no idea that James Bond is meant to be British. Because, well, in India, English film = American Hollywood, see?

Pussfeller: Not at all. Nobody even knows who Felix Leiter is. James Bond in my country is just another English-language superhero character. Doesn't matter whether he is American or British coz nobody cares a damn & most people wouldn't know the difference anyway.

Here in Argentina (and most South American countries including Brazil) it's called "Operación Skyfall" (like what happened with "Thunderball" -called "Operation Thunder in Spain and South America)

Since Bond is such the definition of world sprawling adventure, wouldn't it be great if his villains made an occasional reference to these other translations?

In other words:

'So: Mr. James Bond, agent 007. In my country those who have had the debatable luck to have met you and survived simply refer to you as... the Queen's bad tiger.'

Yep. Just Skyfall here in the states. Well, "Skyfall: the IMAX Experience" if you're going to see it that way, but that doesn't really count, does it? I mean, it's not like that's what it'll say during the title sequence, right?

I like that translation. I remember there was a thread in which you listed the Thai translations of every movie starting with Dr. No, but that thread seems to be gone now.

In Taiwan, where the official language is Mandarin Chinese, the official title is Kongjiang Weiji, or The Crisis That Falls Out of the Sky. Hong Kong and China also must have Chinese titles, but they are often different from Taiwan's.

In France, It's just said "Skyfall".

(But I suppose in Quebec they would really translate...)
