Yes sir. Start there. Work your way forward.

Here's the list in publication order and the order you should proceed-
Casino Royale
Live and Let Die
Moonraker
Diamonds are Forever
From Russia with Love
Doctor No
Goldfinger
For Your Eyes Only
Thunderball
The Spy Who Loved Me
On Her Majesty's Secret Service
You Only Live Twice
The Man with the Golden Gun
Octopussy and the Living Daylights

(Forgive me if these are out of order. Best to my memory. I'm sure another member will correct my errors if there are any.)

Welcome to the community. Pleasure to have you. Now get reading.

Chief of SIS has it right. When I first read the books, many years ago, I read them out of order, starting with Thunderball. That worked all right (obviously!), but it's best if you read them in order.

I must say though, the Spy Who Loved Me kind of ruins the syncopated flow though. It does build a nice suspense between the TB and OHMSS but I found TSWLM a slog to get through to get to OHMSS.

Thanks for welcoming me! :) and right now I am reading A Game of Thrones but after I finish that book, I am going to get on amazon.com and find Casino Royale and I will start reading it ASAP. I am a huge James Bond fan. I can't wait for skyfall and 007 Legends the game.

I don't know where you live, but you should be able to pick them up in any decent bookstore.

The Bond novels are difficult to come by in the hipper bookstores of today, which focus on bankable page-turners and academic 'classics' (Shakespeare, Dickens, etc) and nothing in between. Usually you have to wait until there's a new printing of them (which luckily enough seems to happen around the time of a new film's release).

My advice is try other places that you wouldn't usually associate with books, HMV, Tower Records and the like. I've bought more than a few Bond books in record shops.

As for reading them in order, that's something I've still yet to do (I haven't read DAF, TSWLM, OP/TLD or FYEO the whole way through), possibly because I made the mistake of basing my reading order on which ones had a strong fan-following and which ones were based on films I liked.

I think my favourite so far is Moonraker, as it's got a little bit of everything that makes the books so intriguing in their own way, it's not too lengthy a read and it's got the best look into Bond's everyday life of all of the books I've read.

Moonraker is my favourite, too. It lopes along in a nicely gripping and mysterious way, and at the exact point when you start to wonder where all this going, all hell breaks loose and it doesn't stop until the last page. It also has the most breathtakingly exciting climax of any of the Fleming books.

Anyway, I'd definitely read them in order. As I recall, each book refers to the previous one in some way, and Bond progesses and, dare I say it, ages as a character throughout the series.

Also, I'm intrigued as to why Chief Of SIS addressed you, Iceskater101, as 'sir'!

I'm sure you've sorted this out by now, but if you ask the staff at your Barnes and Noble they'll be able to order you whatever you like.

Oh I will read every James Bond novel ever written! I am definitely starting out with Flemings novels and I will continue on to the other authors mentioned on this site.

I've just started reading Fleming's books for the first time myself - they've recently re-released two different collections, both of which are on Amazon for between £6-8.

Casino Royale was great but I confess I'm struggling with the racism of Live and Let Die greatly.

My first book was Dr No, and I read it as hardback in 1958. To do that, We as a bunch of university students had to pool our pennies together to buy our first Fleming's book. That was the start of my addiction to Fleming's Bond novels. When Dr No was released in 1962, I was thrilled to see Bond on the wide screen, and since then Connery to me has always been the Bond.

Yeah have you ever read IT? Really bad racism and homophobia..
anyway, I still want to read the books. Really sad they are written like that though.

Yeah that too, obviously times are different now and writers don't write like how they used to.

Question?
Do you buy a set of Fleming in a three book combo or buy the books individual....like CR, LALD, and MR is one set and there the FRWL Dr.NO, and Goldfinger is another set and then Thunderball, OHMSS, YOLT is the third set

What is the highest/good price that you have buy from amazon/ebay? Yes I read the novels already but I want to read it without returning to library........currently have Dr.No only

I bought them individually from barnes and noble the website. It's a good deal for me because I am a member there and I get free shipping so it worked out.
