Upon rewatching both Craig films, I came across what I can only imagine is a little in-joke by the writers.

In Casino Royale, after Bond sends in his resignation letter we get quick shot of his computer screen. In his e-mail are a few files marked "Stationary Request."

Then, in Quantum of Solace Bond easily seduces Fields by asking her to help him find the stationary (another request).

I have decided this is not a coincidence, but a in-joke from the writers. Now whether it was from Haggis or not remains to be seen. But I'll tell you this, when I see Skyfall in November (I'm American) I'll be on the look out for a stationary request.

Hm...could be right Jimmy, nice spot!

Maybe he'll get some digs in with Q perhaps, or put in some requests himself at the MI6 bunker? I'll be looking for this now!

This reminds me that I had noticed Bond throws keys both in CR at the hotel and in QOS again at a hotel with the same carelessness. And now in Skyfall we know that he might have yet another reason to throw a set of keys carelessly.

You think he throws keys carelessly? Watch him chuck that laptop in the trailer.

You do realize that there is a difference between "stationery" and "stationary," right?

In Casino Royale, the "stationary request" is about a "change of station." Such as Station C- Canada.

In Quantum, he asks for help finding "stationery," such as paper.

I don't understand the theory that this was intentional.

I always like that screen shot, because it includes the email address of a David Hicks, who at the time was a suspected Australian terrorism supporter

I'll admit, and no offense to Jimmy, I didn't really get what was happening anyway.

stationary [ˈsteɪʃənərɪ]
adj
1. not moving; standing still
2. not able to be moved
3. showing no change the doctors said his condition was stationary
4. tending to remain in one place

I don't buy the idea that the email in CR is about changing station (Station C-Canada etc.). It's such an odd turn of phrase for requesting moving station. I think it's much more likely to be about stationery, but the props-person who loaded these emails on to the laptop can't spell.

That being said, I agree with Binyamin that this is not an in-joke that CraigBond is obsessed with stationery. 1. Why bother? I mean, it's not that funny a joke is it? and 2. 99.999% of people who saw Casino Royale would not have noticed the "stationary" email, so why pick the joke up again for QoS?

Only obsessives like ourselves are going to pause the bluray at this point to pore over the emails in Bond's inbox and they clearly haven't made much of an effort to make it look realistic - I mean "@thenet.com" what kind of email address is that supposed to be?

I say the stationery reference in QoS is coincidence. CR was happenstance. If it happens in Skyfall then I'll accept it is a joke, but then its enemy action.

I was just thinking about this the other day. I hope so. It'd be a nice running gag.

EDIT

So there's a difference between Stationery and Stationary? News to me. Thanks for the heads up. MOVING ON.

It was a lighthearted jab, sir. It is entertaining that we're having a serious discussion about a half-second cutaway shot in a six-year-old film. I'm including myself in the ridiculousness.

My apologies then. Your initial post in this thread appeared to be someone trying to rain on the parade. I apparently misread the tone.
