I'm not sure why it popped in my head to do this. I may not even be the first one, I doubt I am. I was doing the washing up and just began wondering about the alternate 'what-ifs' we'd get if the same Bond actors are kept, with the same amount of films they did in the same years that they did them but we switched the order of films around based on certain things.
So, for example. If all the Fleming titles were used in the order they were published, for example. And then begin using the original titles the producers began to use when they ran out.
So, if that were the case and we use the original date certain short stories were published rather than their inclusion in an anthology, we'd have got:
1962 - Casino Royale (Sean Connery)
1963 - Live and Let Die (Sean Connery)
1964 - Moonraker (Sean Connery)
1965 - Diamonds are Forever (Sean Connery)
1967 - From Russia with Love (Sean Connery)
1969 - Dr No (George Lazenby)
1971 - Goldfinger (Sean Connery)
1973 - A View to a Kill (Roger Moore)
1974 - For Your Eyes Only (Roger Moore)
1977 - Quantum of Solace (Roger Moore)
1979 - Risico (Roger Moore)
1981 - The Hildebrand Rarity (Roger Moore)
1983 - Thunderball (Roger Moore)
1985 - The Spy Who Loved Me (Roger Moore)
1987 - The Living Daylights (Timothy Dalton)
1989 - On Her Majesty's Secret Service (Timothy Dalton)
1995 - The Property of a Lady (Pierce Brosnan)
1997 - You Only Live Twice (Pierce Brosnan)
1999 - 007 in New York (Pierce Brosnan)
2002 - The Man with the Golden Gun (Pierce Brosnan)
2006 - Octopussy (Daniel Craig)
2008 - Licence to Kill (Daniel Craig)
2012 - GoldenEye (Daniel Craig)
Weirdly, 'The Living Daylights' remains exactly where it was, as Dalton's debut.
I thought it could be a fun diversion every now and then. To keep the actors and everything else in place but fluctuate the titles based on certain criteria.
Maybe just me. I'll get back to the washing up.

I like that - nice one, and it all works as well.
Well, some great "what-if" Bond film titles there too - and 'Licence To Kill' sounds like a great debut for Daniel Craig too as 007.

If all the Fleming titles were used in the order they were published, for example. And then begin using the original titles the producers began to use when they ran out.
So, if that were the case and we use the original date certain short stories were published rather than their inclusion in an anthology, we'd have got:
That's a big 'if'.
All thing being equal, and going only with titles actually used, we might have got:
1962 - Casino Royale (Sean Connery)
1963 - Live and Let Die (Sean Connery)
1964 - Moonraker (Sean Connery)
1965 - Diamonds are Forever (Sean Connery)
1967 - From Russia with Love (Sean Connery)
1969 - Dr No (George Lazenby)
1971 - Goldfinger (Sean Connery)
1973 - For Your Eyes Only(Roger Moore)
1974 - From A View to a Kill (Roger Moore)
1977 - Quantum of Solace (Roger Moore)
1979 - Thunderball (Roger Moore)
1981 - The Spy Who Loved Me (Roger Moore)
1983 - On Her Majesty's Secret Service (Roger Moore)
1985 - You Only Live Twice (Roger Moore)
1987 - The Man with the Golden Gun (Timothy Dalton)
1989 - Octopussy (Timothy Dalton)
1995 - The Living Daylights (Pierce Brosnan)
1997 - Licence to Kill (Pierce Brosnan)
1999 - GoldenEye (Pierce Brosnan)
2002 - Tomorrow Never Dies (Pierce Brosnan)
2006 - The World is Not Enough (Daniel Craig)
2008 - Die Another Day (Daniel Craig)
2012 - Skyfall (Daniel Craig)
So Connery still makes DAF, FRWL & GF, Moore still makes FYEO, AVTAK & TSWLM, and Brosnan still makes GE & TND - except they would have been very different, as would all of the others.
And it wouldn't have happened like that anyway, for reasons we cannot even begin to imagine.

This list brings some really interesting combinations. Connery in LALD and MR. Moore in TB and YOLT.
Both of those would be wildly different to what we got. Especially MR with Connery in 1964. It would be more based on the novel, or least adapted. With perhaps some gadgets, girls and extra locations thrown in.
I could see Moore pulling off TB and YOLT. Especially YOLT as its a big Epic, larger than life movie similar to what he did in the 70s anyway.
Moore in OHMSS also would have been very interesting, as long as they kept the film as it was, and did not change it for Moore's more comedic take.
Interesting also Dalton taking on TMWGG. If the existing film lost a bit of humour , Sheriff JW and Goodnight, you could see Dalton pulling that film off.
Craig has the rough end of the stick though, no Fleming stories and he gets DAD, which they surely would have scaled back for Craigs interpretation.
