I've been in the process of doing my annual Bondathon and noticed all of the actors that have portrayed Bond have done some skiing or scuba diving in at least one movie. Craig, even though he is maybe my favorite has not done either and it looks like from the trailers he probably won't be doing any in Skyfall. I'm hoping in his next two we see a little of these scenes. I always enjoy them and it's kind of one of those things that make Bond, Bond :-)

I agree. I definitely think that Bond should go cold with Bond 24. I'd love a Bond movie set in the Alps again.

Action and adventure always works for Bond in the snow. Fantastic cinematography, fast and dangerous action, it's got it all. There's only so much drama and excitement to be had for hours spent underwater scuba diving without dreary music and slow action getting boring. (Thunderball is my least favourite Connery film!)

Skis, sledges, dangerous mountains, helicopters, quads, cars, snowboards, submarines, planes, parachutes, boats...the possibilities are endless for a snow-bound mission for Bond and I would love Craig to be on the ice next time.

I think we will get at least one of those for the next one. Especially if Mendes returns or Nolan comes on board to direct, considering OHMSS is his favorite film.

I do love a bit of ski, although it is fairly unlikely that you'd need to evade a baddie by going down a mountain! OHMSS probably used up the only reasonable excuse for that happening! :)

I can imagine a scenario where Bond must scale a mountain along with a few fellow agents, only to have to race to the bottom on skis in an effort to arrive at a destination before the film's turncoat does. Combat on the slopes is more or less dead, especially following Inception's wonderful OHMSS homage. Still, I'd take skiing to deep sea diving in a modern film any day. I think any effort to trump Thunderball's underwater photography will end in embarrassment.

YES. Would love to see some freediving in a future Bond film! No bubbles and no slo-mo. Just the big blue...

Since Barbara Broccolli loves having Craig do scenes with his shirt off here's hoping a diving scene shows up soon. Btw, the fact Craig has not done these scenes are not unprecedented. Connery never did a skiing scene and didn't do any diving until Thunderball. I'm not counting the PTS of Goldfinger with the seagull on the head.

Indeed, when watching Inception, you cannot but think the snow scene is somewhat of an hommage to OHMSS.

I think Craig would look tremendous in a snow scene, that could start as a chase (Bond being on the trail of some baddie, with an operational sniper gear) and then turn into a ski chase when Bond has to flee before a truckload of ennemies and improvise a skiing run.

It could be very practical too... Bond has to recover a valuable item that's been lost over the side... no scuba gear... shot looking up as he decends hand-over-hand on the anchor line... lungs aching for air....

I'm still hoping for Bond involved in some difficult and dangerous sailing somewhere down the line.

Perhaps an Iron Chef challenge that goes awry and they go after each other with cleavers and sushi knives ? Or a frantic attempt to avoid being caught by some NON-reality TV strumpet on the streets of NY, threatening to use him to boost their ratings but place him at deadly risk of who knows how many STDs ? Getting his smartphone hacked and racing to change his email address ? Ugh....you guys are right. The modern-day threats do not compare. Make it Sea and Ski and if you can combine them, go for it !
To make it really stand out from what's already been done (and good luck with that), I'd point out that Bond has not raced/chased on ice skates before (standing on them, not riding on them like Brosnan's Bond in the ice-skating vehicle, which lead to him para-sailing an Arctic tsunami...oh, that looked bad -- the special effects were right down there with the cheapskate "everything goes red then explodes" in Diamonds Are Forever, an otherwise enjoyable let's-have-fun-with-this-version of Bond, the precursor and template, really, for the let's-laugh-at-all-this Roger Moore Bonds.
It would be difficult to have an ice-skating scene that makes sense -- but there could be a place where it's slower to trudge through snow so skating would make sense...Perhaps for a Pre-titles sequence ? It -- using the PTS, that is -- worked for getting a skiing scene into a movie otherwise predominantly set in the desert and on (and in) the ocean, in The Spy Who Loved Me !

This.

It's actually quite surprising that sailing hasn't been showcased yet -- It seems natural for a Navy man, and is a sport that fits Bond well. It can also be quite dramatic on screen.

Add to that the fact that many modern-day "Bond villain" billionaires engage in cutthroat sailing competitions...

Come on. That is perfect for Bond.

^ I agree with that. I really want him to go skiing sometime though. I think that's important. Both Pierce and Roger had to ski in James Bond movies.

This thread is eerie! I swear I was thinking the exact same thing about skiing and deep sea diving the day after I saw Skyfall!

Personally, diving is my pick for Bond 24 (if we could only choose one). I love underwater stuff in Bond. A specific idea floating around in my head at the moment is a segment set on an oil platform, perhaps being followed with a dramatic underwater life or death struggle in the piping beneath the water - and subsequently the sea at large. Just throwing it out there.

But yeah, skiiing is good too.

I remember that while on Late Night with Jimmy Fallon Craig said that he doesnt want action scenes like Roger did, and TSWLM was argued there. I was bored with snow scenes in every Brosnan one but now I really want one .

Would love to see Craig do either of these. I thought that the skiing scenes in TWINE were so atrociously pedestrian that I would love a well-scripted reason for a return to the slopes. And maybe a sporting "size up each other" sailboat race against an enemy would be a lot of fun, too!

Skiing would be great, but it's hard to think of many valid story reasons why two people would need to get from the top of a mountain to the bottom really quickly in a spy film! Or why Bond would be up there in the first place.

I do like the sailing idea.
