The PSO/NSNA question is indeed as Zen suspects: PSO was the international sales organization for the film and they had designed their own artwork for the film that local distributors could use in case they were not going to design their own local art. In Benelux e.g., the Belgian distributor used the design and based their own local (small) poster on it but in Holland -a different distributor- simply ordered an x number of these international one sheets and shipped them into theatres.

Wonderful. Thank you, J.J.

After sending DK an email containg 55 seperate comments concerning the errors and text omissions in the book they have now apparently pulled it from Amazon.

I understand they now intend to reprint it in a corrected version.

Whoa! Really?

Today Amazon sent me an e-mail with a shipping notice.

But I´ve seen the "news" about this on the lovely mi6.co.uk page - either they were misinformed or Amazon has rectified the issue already.

Boom.

http://www.thebookbo...oster-book.html

I feel kind of bad for DK. Certainly errors and omissions are typical in official publications. Why didn't DK run a proof past any of us? But they even blew me off when I asked for a review copy, so...

What's this mean for those of us who already bought the book?

It could be they will do nothing after their "review". I expect the review looks into whether any of the errors causes them any legal problems. The only thing I could think of woud be the NSNA poster. Maybe PSO owns that artwork. It will be interesting to see how this develops.

Hopefully it's released day and date with Skyfall so they can include the new posters as well. I know they want it in shops in time for the anniversary and Skyfall's release date, but in a few weeks it'll be out of date.

I don't they'll get any complaints from PSO as that is no longer in existance: In its final years of existence, PSO briefly became a full-fledged production company, financing films such as The Neverending Story (with Warner Bros. Pictures), Das Boot (withColumbia Pictures), Fire and Ice (with 20th Century-Fox), Flight of the Navigator (with Disney) and Short Circuit and 8 Million Ways to Die (with Tri-Star Pictures).
Despite releasing many successful films, PSO ended up running into financial problems and was forced into bankruptcy in 1986, effectively ending the company.[7] The assets of PSO were sold to Vestron Pictures, its home video output partner.
A year after PSO ended, Damon founded a new company, with Peter Guber and Jon Peters, called Vision International.[1]
PSO is known today as Lions Gate Entertainment, which handles some ancillary rights to the former PSO library.

As NSNA Rights are now with MGM, they're probably fine...

Thanks for the heads-up, guys.

I saw the book in Chapters for the first time yesterday, and after reading the above news I went to check to see if they still had it, which they do.

My ladylove decided to buy it for me now, instead of waiting until Christmas when it may not be available.

I'm surprised that Amazon agreed to pull it. When the order went out to retrieve 'Assassin of Secrets,' they started selling their copies for something like $40-60, driving it from the bottom of their popular titles list to near the top.

I think I can live with the mistakes, knowing that they'll corrected in the reissue. My only question is: should I keep it wrapped, in case it does become a collectors' item?

Interestingly, Amazon.com seems to be the only amazon-site that have stopped offering the book. You can still get it via amazon.co.uk and amazon.de.

I was just about to order the book from Amazon UK when I read the news. I groaned. However, if the mistakes only concern text and captions, I don't think I'm really bothered about that.

If I knew exactly when a corrected version - if there even will be a corrected version - is released, it would make my decision a little easier.

Oh well!

I basically buy those books just for the reprinted posters. If the captions have mistakes, bad enough. But that does not ruin it for me.

I´m not working for DK by the way ;-)

Thanks JJ for this information - it has been a bit of a conundrum on the poster forums.

I have copied and linked to this thread here.

I'm also curious to see what becomes of the copies of the book we were supposed to get free with the pre-order of the Blu-ray set on Amazon, whether those have been pulled too. It seems at this point 1) Amazon is giving us a book that isn't fit to be sold or 2) we're going to need a slight refund if that version of the book is pulled because we ordered from them thinking we were getting something extra...

I sent an email to DK asking them to clarify the situation. Was it they who pulled the book or Amazon? Why is it still available on Amazon UK?

We'll see if they get back to me. I've written them before and they've never answered.

Hi,

So, it appears to be an International 1 Sheet printed in Holland for use wherever, but predominantly the Benelux? Do I have it right?

The book is back on Amazon. No word from DK about what happened or whether there will be an updated edition. Weird.

Maybe the Amazon pull had nothing to do with the errors?

Got mine today! A very nice update on the previous poster book, absolutely worth it.

Shocking to see the famous THUNDERBALL poster with Bond being massaged - and Bond not wearing any shorts!

NO. It was internationally printed (US, UK, whatever) and on order from the sales agent to the international distributors, just like they could order their 35mm prints and trailers or press stills or other ad/pub materials.

There is an official DK 50 Years Of Bond Posters app availaible for a small price, which contains all the posters in the book in handy app size - in case you didn't want to spend TOO much money, but see all the posters in nice HD format. I think it's great, with trivia about each poster also.

I bought them both. As a mad Bond fan, yes I would say it is indeed worth it. I think the latest poster book has better 'presentation' and there are pictures and posters in one that the other doesn't have (both books have in fact). Anyway, I don't think a true Bond fan should miss this book so go out and buy it.
