As Skyfall draws closer, we kick off the Bond 50 season with style. I know this thread has been done probably a million times before, I think it's time for a fresh start though. So what are your favourite Bond sets? The set design are one of the many things that sets James Bond apart from many other action movies. So, to celebrate 50 years of James Bond, let us begin.

A few of my favourites...
  • Atlantis - The Spy Who Loved Me.
  • Fields' Hotel Room - Quantum of Solace
  • Fort Knox - Goldfinger
  • Chemical Facility - GoldenEye
  • Scaramangas Fun House - The Man With The Golden Gun
  • Kanangas Lair - Live and Let Die
  • Piz Gloria - On Her Majesty's Secret Service
  • Train Set - From Russia With Love
  • Crab Key / Dr No's base - Dr. No
  • Volcano Lair - You Only Live Twice

Perla De Las Dunas is by far my favorite. I have others, but the Eco Hotel really stands out the most for me.

Also in no particular order:
  • Liparus interior - The Spy Who Loved Me (a ship full of submarines - designed by Ken Adam? I'm there!)
  • Scaramanga's fun house - The Man With The Golden Gun (I definitely want one of my own)
  • Kananga's lair - Live and Let Die (ditto)
  • Piz Gloria - On Her Majesty's Secret Service (a great place to visit, but...)
  • Volcano rocket base - You Only Live Twice (my first real "whoah!" moment as a Bond fan)
  • Disco Volante - Thunderball (except for wondering where they kept that deck gun before conversion)
  • The Whyte House and Whyte's summer house - Diamonds are Forever (are Bambi & Thumper included?)
  • The Ice Palace - Die Another Day (actually, you'd never catch me in such an environment, but it sure looks cool (NPI).

Also in no particular order:
  • MOONRAKER: the shuttle base in the jungles and particularly Drax's private crematorium for Bond and Goodhead at the exhaust pipes of his spacecraft. Together with YOLT's volcano it comes close to what I imagined Drax's base in the novel MR would have looked liked
  • ON HER MAJESTY'S SECRET SERVICE: Piz Gloria, of course. Such a splendid set, perfectly capturing the atmosphere of the mountain scenery and the mindset of the jeunesse doree of the late sixties. You practically expect to see Gunther Sachs and Brigitte Bardot sitting next to Bond and Blofeld, with Leonard Bernstein Ruby, Bunt and Bobby Kennedy on the other side, all of them chatting about the Cresta Run and Miles Davis. It is at once a set of the here and now, and at the same time a window into a world far removed from the ordinary and profane. Very Fleming indeed.
  • THE LIVING DAYLIGHTS: M's desk on the cargo deck of the Hercules aircraft. The last in the long tradition of M's office popping up in the most obscure places. Totally kafkaesque.
  • DIAMONDS ARE FOREVER: Willard Whyte's desert retreat. Obviously the same architect Drax employs for his space programme. Yet a lot cooler than the mad villain pad in outer space. Appeared in a number of tasteful film productions of an adult nature, if I'm not mistaken.
  • LIVE AND LET DIE: Mr Big's cellar headquarters with card table and braces to keep welcome visitors in their place while the staff relieves them of expendable extremities. Also the voodoo village and shark basin, fantastically exotic and mysterious. Like a journey to Wickham Wood.
  • YOU ONLY LIVE TWICE: Tanaka's underground premises. Mix of Best Buy, Sony flagship store and the tube.
  • A VIEW TO A KILL: Zorin's dirigible, invaluable for tough business negotiations. And the view...
