Strangely enough, the link you choose does not mention "The spy who loved me" and "Nobody does it better"!http://www.thewrap.c...r-dies-68-50971
Very sad news. 68 is far too young to go.

I remember him being interviewed on a Terry Wogan / Jay Leno type programme, sometime after Spy. He asked the audience to come up with three subjects, and there and then he wove them all into a song that he also played to piano music - all totally conceived on the spot.
I was amazed.

His impact and legacy, however it seems small to the James Bond franchise has been noted as some of the most poignant and impressive for the series as a whole.
Thank you for your passion and contribution to the arts Mr. Hamlisch.

His TSWLM score is a little jokey for some, but I think it captured the '70s Bond brilliantly.
His work on The Sting is top class and the OST to The Way We Were is poignant and lyrical. The theme song can reduce me tears.
Lets not forget he also composed A Chorus Line, one of Broadway's longest running hits.
Ver very sad news.

Agreed. When the Bond scores were re-released on CD in 2002/03, I hoped TSWLM would include previously unreleased tracks. I was disappointed when this didn't happen. Overall I enjoyed the score Marvin Hamlisch wrote for the film.
