One of the things that sets a Bond film apart are the exotic and breathtaking locations, becoming a travelogue in the process. And Fleming himself had created the character of James as a globetrotter. Until now, no Bond film has been shot completely in England. I guess the producers will never take that risk, unless they want to do something radically different from what has been done until now.

I wonder, what will a Bond movie filmed entirely in England be like? A sort of a low-key detective thriller like Doctor No? With more scenes in Bond's flat, and watch him carry out mundane activities like a normal human being?

I hope not.

The issue for me is, would it make sense? Being an MI6 operative, I expect Bond to do the globe trotting. Though, incidentally, my favorite book is Moonraker, Fleming did have stretch the whole keeping Bond in England part. Some formalities like that don't translate very well to the screen in my opinion.

Die Another Day pretty much managed it.
The main cast only appeared in one location the film was set in: London.

Not really. DAD filmed in the UK, Spain, Iceland, Norway, Finland and Hawaii.

My view also. Wouldn't really make sense to have the plot only in London for an MI6 operative.

Some second unit popped to those places, and the cast made it to Spain (doubling for Cuba), but that's it. I don't think there's any other Bond film where the cast don't appear in any of the foreign locations the movie is set in.

True, but I think Golden Claw meant where the story itself is only set in the UK and nowhere else.

Well, it would have to have a reason for Bond to work 'at home'. If members of the SIS or one or several installations of it are targeted for example...

Depends whether you really mean England alone or the UK as a whole. The latter's sufficiently diverse to sustain it although as it looks like we're about to be administered unto us great flippin' slabs of the UK in this next film, "they" probably won't do it for a bit.

I'd love to see a period piece adaptation of Moonraker, but I think contemporary Bond films should have at least some globe-trotting.

Just in England, no. Wouldn't feel like a full Bond movie, too 'At home with 007'-ish.

If the whole UK was included, then it could be manageable I believe.

I think SKYFALL will be the closest we're going to get.

That's what I wanted to imply. Not sure how far the final article will come to the premise.
