A random observation I made. Don't know whether it is a coincidence or not. In many of the European languages, the word 'Night' comes from N plus the word in that language for the number 8, with or without minor variations.
English: N + Eight = Night
German: N + Acht = Nacht
Dutch: N + Acht = Nacht
Spanish: N + Ocho = Noche
Portuguese: N + Oito = Noite
French: N + Huit = Nuit
Italian: N + Otto = Notte
To my knowledge there's no actual connection between 'Night' and 'Eight' it's just that most European languages share the same root words (having evolved from or being heavily influenced by Latin). Similarities are widespread, especially in Spanish, Italian, French and Portugese.

Some of the words for eight are being changed to make your hypothesis true.
