Quantum has the unique distinction in my 007 nerd world of being the only Bond film I've seen just once, and do not own. The only reason is the vulgar amount of shaky-cam-two-images-a-second editing. If Skyfall is the same way, it will also be a single-viewing, non-owned.

I really can't see them returning to the style of Quantum of Solace given the massive amount of backlash it has received even from those who rate the film pretty highly. I can't say the style really bothers me, and I really despise the whole "shaky-cam" phenomenon, as I view it as being more an issue with the quick cuts in the editing rather than the camera being all over the place that is the problem with Quantum of Solace. I don't view it as enough of an issue, though, to keep the film from being in my top 5.

I've been trying to stay spoiler free but I haven't heard Mendes say anything to the effect of "It should feel like a bullet from start to end..." so I think we are safe. If it followed the style of CR, I'd be happy.

Shaky cam is needed in some points, but it was over used in QoS. I thought most of the action in that film was rubbish, that contributed a lot in making it average movie. 007 needs to have top class action. I want to see things happening, CR was great.

We can be cool about it, no, shaky-can won't make a return.
When you see the B roll on the Internet, you can see too that the cams are not on the shoulders of the crew...

Deakins is the Director of Photography on Skyfall. Subsequently, he is responsible for all photography on the film, the complete photographic look - even when others are operating the camera.

Thankfully Deakins is a master DOP, i watched Shawshank again last night. His work combined with Newman's contemplative score is just breathtaking. I cannot wait!

Always wondered about this. How does the second unit director's work match up in style with the work conducted by the first unit? Does Deakins dictate to Witt how a scene is to be shot?

Frankly I hope not that the "shakey-cam" does make a return.

Deakins and Mendes will have started going through every shot and planning the over-all photographic look before Witt came on board.
Witt will be working to the specifications set out by them, as will the model unit, splinter units, etc. He will not be turning up on set and deciding how to shoot things. He’ll be working to tightly storyboarded sequences with camera settings and lenses chosen by Deakins.

That said, his input as an action specıalıst, will have been taken on board during preproduction.
And he’s a very safe pair of hands to deal with the day to day challenges that a complex second unit shoot will inevitably face.

How much more filming is there left to do, by the way? I've been out of the loop for 2 months.

Yep, nothing left to shoot?

So I guess it's editing time. Sounds good to me.

You know, I just re-watched On Her Majesty's Secret Service this weekend, and there was a surprising amount of shaky-cam... it's not a new thing, even for Bond. Watch the scene in which Bond gets jumped by Draco's henchman in Tracy's hotel room. Very quick cuts between moving camera shots. I think they also sped up the footage during the action scenes.

You are quite right, and I noticed this recently too. It's also apparent in TB too.

However, it was non-stop during any scenes with pace in QOS - even Bond and M walking and talking.
