That was most likely the case with Desmond. Connery did look very good. Sure the film didn't have the classic James Bond theme or the gunbarrel or other classic EON Bond motifs, but it certainly was a great film. I personally think it was better than Octopussy which came out the same year as Never Say Never Again, 1983.Also I would think that it was in Desmond Llewelyn 's contract not to appear in any films that would directly compete with any EON films and NSNA would certainly qualify in that catagory. Though, in my oinion it was refreshing to see a film where the hero is fighting the efects of old age. Connery looked very good in the film and I'm glad things worked out where we were able to see him in this movie- even though it isn't an "official" Bond film

The main reason that Desmond Llewelyn wasn't in NSNA was because he never disassociated himself with the official Bond franchise and he was also in Octopussy that same year. I'm quite sure he wanted to continue to be Q, so even if he had (for some reason or another) been contacted by the associates of Kevin McClory (the guy who fought for the rights to the James Bond character) he never would have agreed to do the film... he seemed to love being the real Q.
The fact that NSNA is an unofficial Bond movie is also the reason why there's no hint of the James Bond theme in the soundtrack and no gunbarrel opening at the top of the film.

I don't know how many different threads it takes to explain that Never Say Never Again is an unofficial James Bond movie... but here goes: Never Say Never Again is an unofficial James Bond movie.

It's not the confused status of NSNA, in general, but just this poster... this is the third thread in which this individual has asked about NSNA. Don't worry, I'm not losing any sleep over this or anything else on these forums!
