Monday 16th January 2012 is the 50th anniversary of the start of filming of Dr No (16th Jan 1962). Are you going to commemorate it in any way??!!

I'll watch the movie over a couple of martinis!

50 years...

Man, who would have thought that Bond films are still being made?

Would have thought that we would discuss them?

On a device called computer, connected through the Internet? C´mon, that´s silly, like a hollowed out volcano, right?

Ha! Please, SecretAgentFan, you'll be saying "Ooh, in 50 years we can watch this low-budget film worldwide on little silver discs via the wonder of technology to access behind the scenes information and interviews you gave to the worlds press..."

....hang on a minute....!

Haha...50 years indeed. That's a bloody triumph for modern cinema I tell you. Here's to the next 50. Isn't it funny though, 'Dr.No' started today and was released in October 1962 so they had about 6-7 months filming maybe?

'Skyfall' started the day after the press conference, the same day as 'Dr.No's conference and had nearly 2 more months added to it for filming before the October release this year.

How times and filming and budgets and demands in cinema and the film industry change!

And don´t forget how quality had changed...

Fifty years ago, you could see movies from Hitchcock to John Ford, from Dreyer to Howard Hawks, from David Lean to William Wyler...

Isn´t it wonderful that a series of films that got so much hate from the critics, predicting that it would flame out in the late 60´s and 80´s, is still around - with more prestige than ever?

Happy anniversary, indeed! I'll mark the occasion with a screen of the movie.

Happy anniversary Dr. No and the James Bond film series! Unfortunately, I won't be able to watch it tonight, although I had seen it fairly recently, within the last few months. It's one of the best in the series I think, but it can be a bit slow at times.

By pure coincidence, I just booked a vacation to Jamaica in April. To prepare for the trip, I am now practicing my Jamaica jump up.

It's amazing how the Bond Empire is still popular after all these year. Happy 50th indeed.
