I misread the above post when I first saw it - I though it said "Samantha Bond would have been great on Fields."

 

Ditto "How about Q, on Fields?"

 

Gives a whole new meaning to "I hope you don't snore, Q."

 

Anywho, I shouldn't be surprised if Q ends up forced into the field along with Bond in a future episode. It will probably turn out like Henry Jones Sr & Jr, or Bruce Willis & Justin Long in Live Free or Die Hard, where the tagalong holds up the hero until he finally gets his moment to shine.

As far as watching Bond operate, I prefer to watch him work his way through his disposable pleasures. I know the swinging sixties are over, but I don't care.

 

Dispatching the villain in a prolonged physical duel (eg Grant, Zorin, Trevelyan, Silva)

or

meting out some poetic justice by feeding him a taste of his own medicine (eg Dr. No, Stromberg, Sanchez, Carver)

As much as I like seeing the villain get a taste of his own medicine, I prefer the prolonged duels and head games. They test Bond more. I'll take Red Grant and Silva over Carver and Dr. No anyday.
