So, here's the thing. My dog, Blaze, over the past month has gotten really ill. She's off her food, she's vomiting etc. We decided that it was the right time. I've had her for 7 years, and this is the hardest thing I've probably been through, I'm so close to her. She's a lovely dog, absolutely beautiful.

The vets coming in a few hours, and I've just finished digging her grave. She's going to be buried in one of my old coats, I thought it would be nice for her.

This year will be the first time in 7 years that she hasn't been here for either Christmas or my Birthday. I feel absolutely awful. She knows somethings going on, too. I can see it in her eyes, she looks so sad. :(

It's nice in a very small way, with today being remembrance day, and all.

Truly sorry to hear this. I know the feeling. I had to carry my friend for a month last year before I could accept what he knew all along.

Worst day ever.

If it should be that I grow frail and weak,

And pain should keep me from my sleep,

Then will you do what must be done,

For this — the last battle — can’t be won.

You will be sad I understand,

But don’t let grief then stay your hand,

For on this day, more than the rest,

Your love and friendship must stand the test.

We have had so many happy years,

You wouldn’t want me to suffer so.

When the time comes, please, let me go.

Take me to where my needs they’ll tend,

Only, stay with me till the end,

And hold me firm and speak to me,

Until my eyes no longer see.

I know in time you will agree,

It is a kindness you do to me.

Although my tail its last has waved,

From pain and suffering I have been saved.

Don’t grieve that it must be you,

Who has to decide this thing to do;

We’ve been so close — we two — these years,

Don’t let your heart hold any tears.

Thanks man.

She's gone. I sat and held her until the end. I just hope I was some comfort to her.

Went through the same thing with one of my cats earlier in the year. It's not easy, but you'll be alright. Take care man, I'm sorry.

I'm very sorry to hear about your loss, I know loosing a family member is one of the hardest things to do. Just over two years ago I lost one of my dogs that I had for over 16 years. I got him right as my ex-and I split up and for a while he was my main companion. One of the toughest days I had ever had to face was the day we finally had him put down.

I feel for you.

Thoughts and condolences are with you, Mharkin... I too know well the sorrow and loss of having to put down one's beloved pet.

I'm really sorry, Matt; I know what you've been through. My family cat disappeared a few months ago (she was 15 or older), so we don't even have anything to bury. :(

Also had a scare last year with my dog, Delilah; black Lab, a bit older than yours -- she had a haemorrhage in her spleen from a previously unknown tumor. Everyone advised me to put her down; I said no, she deserves another chance at life, even for a few months. Spleen was removed, and it turned out the tumor was only benign; she's 11 now, and still healthy... but I know there's a day, someways ahead, where I'll have to relive that previous horrible day, and that time, it won't have as happy an ending. :(

My thoughts are with you Mharkin.

My best friend has had her very dear old pony put to sleep today, so I have been thinking of her too.

Sorry.
