I noticed that Daniel Craig's Bond has not been seen yet in the iconic shoulder holster - most iconic if under a dinner jacket of course.

I like the fact he used an inside-waistband, clip holster in Casino Royale, as Bond used one in many of the books. There's no reason why he couldn't use a shoulder rig also, especially if he's going to be sitting down at, say, a card table or something. What do other people think?

Yeah, there was a pretty damn good poster for QOS IIRC, that featured Bond wearing a shoulder holster over a shirt.

To me, the use of a shoulder holster is a bit like Bond's choice of gun - it's not really a dealbreaker if he doesn't use it.

Maybe not, but Bond's iconography is genuinely pretty important.

I wouldn't go so far as to say that a shoulder holster is an important part of Bond's iconography, though. And if the film contained enough of that iconography - ie, the vodka martini, Bond's introduction, the Bond theme, the exotic and larger-than-life elements, etc. - then the lack of a shoulder holster would not really be felt.

No shoulder holster in CR or QoS?

Didn't notice - too much else going on.

Well I was just positing a thought. I'm not going to hide from the fact I am a Bond nerd who enjoys the little details as well as the more important aspects, I am on a Bond forum after all.

The shoulder holster is beyond iconic. But I wouldn't say that I've missed it, because Bond's character has been in an embryonic stage during the last two films, and the thing about the shoulder holster is that it conveys the utilitarian sophistication of a seasoned professional. It's one of those accessories which is elegant in practice precisely because of its awkwardness in principle. It's a lot like a finely tailored suit. Someone with less experience and self-confidence might hesitate to wear it, or might feel chafed or encumbered by it, but Bond could sleep in the damn thing. Someone once observed that no real human being is comfortable in a suit. Only James Bond. The shoulder holster is part of that. Any schmo can carry something on his belt.

It is somewhat. I remember when Brosnan left the role, someone in the press described the departure as Brosnan "hanging up the shoulder holster".

I would like to see Craig wear one as I have missed it's absence slightly, though it doesn't matter that much. However, that QOS publicity shot of Craig with one on looked very slick I must say.
