But he definitely has a tear running down his cheek when he cradles the dying Mathis. Of course he weeper it up when Vesper died in CR, so I guess Daniel is the cry baby Bond.

And yet, Craig's Bond still delivers masculinity not seen since Dalton. Real men are allowed to shed a few tears when their only love dies in front of them. Followed by well-targeted -kicked.

'Real' men do that.

no I don't think he cried then.

Oh dear. How unmanly. I guess the same could be said for Lazenby, who cried at the end of OHMSS.

You don't mean physically wounded, right? M wasn't shot, although it does almost look as if she were. (I'll refrain about yet another comment about incomprehensible editing. Oops, no, looks like I won't.)Mitchell was a traitor, and M was wounded by him.

MI6 has Mr. White.
Mitchell exposes himself as a traitor, shoots the wrong guy first, wings Mr. White while fighting with Bond, then runs for it.
M does a runner, leaving Bond alone with White.
Bond hares off after Mitchell.
?
Mitchell is blown. He's no longer of any use to Quantum except as hired muscle. All M has to do is "stop his cards" and he's stuck in Italy (unless Quantum wants him back badly enough to resupply him). MI6 still has Mr. White, until Bond runs off and leaves him alone to chase after Mitchell, allowing him to escape.
I suppose the only reason M didn't censure Bond was because she was equally guilty of fleeing the scene. Speaking strictly as a Monday-morning quarterback who wasn't there when the scene was written or filmed, and who has never been in such a life-or-death situation, I think it would have made more sense for Bond to stay and guard White. There should have been some other impetus to force Bond to abandon his prisoner.
Cool chase, though.

What was up with that scene anyway? I mean sure, they needed a lead-in to the foot chase through the Siena festival, but consider the logic:
MI6 has Mr. White.
Mitchell exposes himself as a traitor, shoots the wrong guy first, wings Mr. White while fighting with Bond, then runs for it.
M does a runner, leaving Bond alone with White.
Bond hares off after Mitchell.

It was a poorly concieved sequence that sacrificed logic to accomodate an action sequence and tbh so early in the film it just wasn't nescessary for another frenetic explosion. imo Its the footchase more than any other scene that is deserving of criticism from the editing pov and coming so soon after the car chase it's probably here that some peoples opinion of the rest of the film is coloured most negatively.
