We all know the significant changes film adaptations of 007 books have gone through over the years. So much so that the last actual novel that was made into a movie (almost page for page) as OHMSS. Since then, books have been picked apart for a character here or a plot device there leaving other elements untouched.

For example:
The only things used in TSWLM were the title and the Jaws character (loosely based on a character named 'The Horror')
Action sequence parts of the novel LIVE & LET DIE can be found in FYEO & LTK
Only the the title (alered somewhat) was used in AVTAK

That being said, I'd always been disappointed with Octopussy in how the plot of the story (the tale of Sir Dexter Smythe & the cache of stolen North Korean Gold) was so easily summed up by Roger Moore in just a few sentences. What a wonderful film, I'd always thought that would have made. Not that there's anything wrong with the 1983 release. It's the one film that doesn't take itself too seriously. But it would be nice to see the whole Bond/Smythe affair come to the screen in amybe some OTHER film adaptation.
