Dunno if we've had a thread about this before, but I was talking to a friend from university earlier tonight about James Bond of all things. He's quite a big fan himself, and he started talking about the double-taking man in The Spy Who Loved Me, Moonraker and For Your Eyes Only. If anyone's unclear of who I'm talking about, he's the man who is sat on the Sardinian beach drinking from a bottle of wine in The Spy Who Loved Me, sat drinking wine again in Venice in Moonraker and once again drinking wine in a ski lodge in For Your Eyes Only. But my friend then said, "He's in Octopussy as well". I was dumb-founded. Is he? My friend claims that it's the same man who is drinking on the wall of the Monsoon Palace when Octopussy's girls storm it. When he sees them down below, he does the typical double-take with the wine bottle before he's dealt with by Octopussy and the girls. I'm not convinced it's the same man, but I'm itching to find out what everyone on here thinks about this subject!

I expect the Octopussy one's a homage to the earlier chap (Victor Tourjansky). It would have been quite fun to have seen him turn up again in Die Another Day, alongside all the other nods to the past.

I can just see him sitting with a glass of wine as Bond and Graves cross swords through the garden of the fencing school!

In agreement with everyone else he was definitely not in OP. A great gag though, especially in Spy where it was the perfect leveller after seeing Moore driving the lotus out the water.

For what it's worth, IMDB lists him in TSWLM, MR, FYEO but not OP. Not that that means anything since IMDB also lists him as an actor in the 1921 movie The Drunkard

There would be no reason for the same character or actor to show up in India. Note: although TSWLM, MR & FYEO each filmed in several countries, our man only appears in Italy.

From 77 - 85 the creative minds at EON were in love with having a wino represent the typical bystander's reaction to seeing something incredible. Although I enjoyed the Indian version of the unbilled wino, I found the derelict in front of SF City Hall in AVTAK to be superfluous and rather annoying. Were we really supposed to identify with him (or with the background voices crying "it is the city hall!" and "I'll call the fire department!" as sirens swell in the distance)?

It's just as well that the hookah smokers were left out of the Casbah scene in TLD. I for one feel Dalton's Bond benefited more from keeping up the tension in the shortened scene, than he would have had from another Moonraker moment.

To those who would like to see DC 'lighten up' in his next outing I say: be careful what you wish for.

It's still not too late.

Bring back Victor the Drunk!

Huh, I'm not sure why I never realized that before. It makes Bond running into him three times in a row seem a bit less silly now.
