There better be more UK dates than that, cos otherwise, the UK leg looks a bit poo at the moment, to be honest. I wouldn't be able to get to any of them. Where's the Manchester/Preston (or, hell, even York) stops!

So it is the 26th then...I've shortened my trip as I'll be traveling alone (possibly not) but I'm moving things around. I'll be interested in where and when details. Keep me in the loop Zencat.

Hey Charlie;
Friday May 27th
Diamond Light Source is the UK’s national synchrotron science facility, located at Harwell in Oxfordshire. By accelerating electrons to light-speed, Diamond generates brilliant beams of light from infra-red to X-rays which are used for "research" across a range of scientific disciplines. A fitting place for agent Volante and 003 Bryce to meet with Jeffery Deaver! n'est pas? Carte Blanche!

You are more than welcome to stay with us!

I went to the book signing in Houston today. Pictures on my blog.

If Mr. Deaver is coming anywhere near you I highly recommend you go and meet him. He's a very engaging speaker and had a lot of insightful things to say about bond and the process of writing a book.

Cool. Thanks for posting that, Gobi-1. I'm looking forward to seeing JD on Thursday.

Saw Jeffrey Deaver in Scottsdale last night. Funny and personable, as always.

After his talk, JD did some signing, and I had a chance to speak with him briefly. I told him that I was only 20 or so chapters into the book, but that I believed he had succeeded wonderfully in bringing Fleming's James Bond back to life, and he seemed very pleased.

Earlier, in the course of his talk, Deaver did a bit where he read a horribly written little narrative piece, filled with redundancies, mixed metaphors, etc, and explained how such a thing should be edited. When I spoke with him later, I referred to that bit of writing, and asked, "Was that Jim Hatfield?" He laughed long and hard. I wasn't sure whether he was familiar with The Killing Zone, but obviously he is.

I asked how many of the continuation novels he'd read, and he told me, "Three or four."

During his talk, as he was going over all of the characteristics of this James Bond that had carried over from Fleming's original, Deaver mentioned the fact that Bond doesn't smoke. He explained that Bond doesn't smoke "because he's a very, very good operative, and he needs to blend in at all times. Smokers, these days, stand out. They also leave forensic evidence."

Using that logic, Deaver should have had Bond burn the sheets from every hotel bed he ever had sex in. He wouldn't want forensic evidence being left for his enemies. :rolleyes: :P

Great plot, though. A reinvigorated SPECTRE could clone Bond from the, um, evidence, and train him for their own nefarious purposes. Where's Jim Hatfield when you need him?

Oh, right. Still dead.
