Graham King, President of GK Films, the same company that released such hits as last year's The Tourist and the current animated blockbuster Rango, has confirmed yesterday that a new actress has been cast in the role of Lara Croft in the upcoming movie reboot of the Tomb Raider franchise.

"We wanted a young, vibrant actress for the role," said King, "that's why we chose Vanessa Hudgens for the title role.

She comes to us with an impressive filmography resume which include the current action blockbuster Sucker Punch and the popular High School Musical trilogy"

"I remember playing Tomb Raider when I was a little girl, "says Vanessa at the press conference announcement, "and I remember being fascinated by the way Lara carried herself in the game.

She is the pure embodiment how a woman should be: strong, assertive, independent, tough - ready to take on any and all challenges thrown her way!!"

When reminded how she will have big shoes to fill after Angelina Jolie made the celluloid Lara Croft internationally famous, Hudgens said:

"I am honored to follow in the footsteps of Angelina and I will do her and Lara Croft proud and the millions of worldwide fans. It will be great! It will be fun! It will be fantastic!"

Coincidentally, Vanessa and her fellow Sucker Punch cast members had to undergo 12 weeks of intensive training for their roles:

weight training, combat training and extensive live weapons training by a former Navy SEAL - all the skills that Lara Croft needs to survive in her element!!

The new Tomb Raider Reboot movie is scheduled for release in 2013.

Didn't know it was a hit considering it bombed at the US box office.

I would assume April Fools?

I mean it only made two movies and they feel the need to reboot again anyway?

Yeah, this was a pretty obvious April Fools Joke. I'd be surprised if anyone took this seriously. Even though the reboot is to be an origin story w/ a younger Lara Croft, Hudgens is a little too young in my opinion and I haven't seen her mentioned before as a possible contender for the role.

One rumored contender for the role who I think would be perfect is Gemma Arterton (Strawberry Fields from QoS). She's the right age and is actually British (unlike Jolie).

The first film wasn't a box office bomb in any sense either in the U.S or worldwide. The second movie, which everyone agrees wasn't as good did bomb at the U.S box office.

Their is indeed a reboot on the way with an expected release of 2013. I personally think a reboot is a good idea. BTW, they can't reboot "again" when the film franchise has never been rebooted previously. If any franchise deserves criticism for rebooting, it's Spiderman. They release 3 movies and barely a couple years later reboot the franchise w/ the purpose of re-telling the exact same story.

Totally. I mean the reboot has to remember to bring back all of Lara's unique and compelling character traits, like her, er...umm....give us a minute. Hey remember that bloke who was in the first one?

I swallowed it hook, line and sinker. As you say, a reboot of the Lara Croft "series" is on its way (and if it isn't then it's only a matter of time - literally everything under the sun is now being rebooted, it seems), and I didn't find anything improbable about this Vanessa Hudgens person, whoever she is, being cast in the lead.

The character is notable for having a pretty nice rack, that's quite a compelling trait in my book. An adventurous and athletic woman w/ a nice sized chest bouncing around tombs duel wielding automatic pistols...sign me up...w/ a decent story.

Well, as the game series is, yes, you guessed it, rebooting with a new installment this year, they're also redesigning Lara as a more realistic character with a physique somewhat resembling a real person as seen here :

I actually own several Tomb Raider games, so I've definitely heard about the the upcoming game. The last couple games (which were designed by Crystal Dynamics), her chest wasn't huge. It was really only the older games designed by Core that made her look like a blow up doll.

The older Tomb Raider games (mainly, the PS1 games) are games I'll always love playing because I played them as a little kid, even though the controls by today's standards are complete crap.

I have all of them; every Playstation 1 entry, every Playstation 2 entry, every PC entry and every Playstation 3 and XBox and XBox 360 entry including Guardian of the Light.

I also still have a Sega Saturn version of Tomb Raider 1!

Tomb Raider was first released for the Sega Saturn and the PC before it even made it to the Sony Playstation 1.

I remember playing it on my Pentium 90 (the predecessor of the Pentium 1 chip) with no 3D card (in VGA), no audio, no controller, using just the keyboard and the mouse and I was able to finish it.

My first hand experience of the Hudgens phenomenon is limited, but to be honest I don't really see why she would be any worse a pick than whoever they're going to go for. She's seems to have the right kind of appearance, she's athletic, and she's already done her action/"get the tissues out lads, I'm in my 20s now" moment with Sucker Punch. What more do you need? "Acting talent"? Phfffffffftttttt

[font="Century Gothic"]LOL, I would of fallen for it too if I had read this earlier !!
Haven't seen any of the movies, but Tomb Raider is the first RPG I ever finished playing. I remember cause I kinda suck at video games.

Tomb Raider isn't an RPG...as far as how the RPG "genre" in video game terms is described. Dragon Quest, Final Fantasy, Xenogears, Chrono Trigger...those are RPGs.

Tomb Raider could be described as "Action/Adventure" and/or "third-person shooter."
