For those of you in Los Angeles, I thought you may be interested to know that Grauman's Egyptian Theatre is doing a tribute to John Barry featuring a number of films that he scored. They haven't officially announced anything yet, but I do know that this is the lineup for a few of the James Bond film at this time:

TMWTGG/OP - March 17
FRWL/DAF - March 18
GF/YOLT - March 20

Walkabout, The Midnight Cowboy, Out of Africa, Deadfall, Dances with Wolves and The Ipcress File are also on the agenda at either the Egpytian or the Aero Theatre.

I'm want to go to every Bond showing, but I'll probably have to miss out on the FRWL/DAF double feature because I am going to special screening of Casino with Sharon Stone in attendance. We'll see what happens though.

I hope MR, TLD, OP and TB get shown. TMWTGG/OHMSS would make a great double feature.

According to this post, OHMSS is not being shown and Octopussy is. All Fandango says is, "The Man The Golden Gun/O" which isn't much help. I hope it's Octopussy actually as I've never seen a print of that movie.

TMWTGG/OP? A double dose of Barry, Sir Rog, & Maud would make for a good double feature.

I'd never heard a composer receiving a tribute like this before. It's a nice nod to John Barry.

It's strange the way this has been reported. The day after he died, I saw a segment on the CBS Evening News but nothing on Entertainment Tonight. Entertainment Weekly gave his obit a passing mention in its roundup page.

I guess the Justin Bieber movie and the Sheen and Lohan arrests are more interesting in the moment than a man whose talented contributions to the arts will outlast them all.

Oh, sorry. I meant Octopussy, not OHMSS.

That's okay. I first heard about it via Fandango and "O" wasn't helping me. This will be the only time I'm glad it's OP and not OHMSS.

Maud Adams will be at the double feature of The Man with the Golden Gun and Octopussy. Hopefully she'll have lots of good John Barry stories to share.

Also, From Russia with Love and Goldfinger will both be shown digitally while the rest of the films will be screened from 35mm prints.

I changed it for you.

I was at the Egyptian today for a book signing. Took this.

The prints have been fantastic so far. FRWL was digitally projected, so naturally that was pristine, but TMWTGG. OP and DAF all looked great. I'm looking forward to seeing Goldfinger and You Only Live Twice tomorrow.

Went to the Moore double feature. The prints were great and it was awesome seeing Maud Adams. But they didn't show the "exclusive John Barry interviews" as advertised. Wonder what happened there. Also missed the DVD giveaway, although perhaps they did that before I got there at 7:30.

They said yesterday they were hoping to have the behind the scenes stuff for Sunday. We'll see.

Everything's been great thus far. I gained a new appreciation for both TMWTGG & Octopussy now having seen them on the big screen. FRWL looked incredible and DAF was terrific. I can't wait for tomorrow's showing of Goldfinger & YOLT.

Well there were no rare John Barry interviews, but the movies were a blast. Last night was just as fun as the other two.
