Obviously this isn't too surprising news as we all kind of new She would be back as M however Dame Judi Dench wasn't metioned in the press release so according to her she is back

"In an interview with the BBC Dench said she can’t reveal anything about the script, but she is looking forward “hugely” to working with Craig again and Sam Mendes, who she has previously worked with in theatre."

I'm happy to see Dench Back as while she annoyed me during the Brosnan era I think she is really shining in the Craig era and the interplay between them is quite fun to watch :D

Kinda knew she would be back, but I keep having this thought in the back of my mind that this may be her last movie. I don't know why, but i feel we kinda need a new M now. she has help the transition of Daniel Craig and now i beleive it time for her to move on. Think we need to go back to a male boss for bond at least for a while.

Since I like her as M... good news.

But she is getting older and older. Don´t think she will stay on after BOND 23.

Yeah, I imagine she'll either exit after this one or, more likely, Craig's last effort. Good to know she's on board and excited, and that she's keeping her lips sealed. Good stuff

Bernard Lee was M for 17 years. In 2012, Dench will be at the 17 year mark. If she returns for Bond 24 (which I highly doubt considering her age), she will have held the role longer than Lee. Interesting.

Forgot to post this a couple of days ago. She said live on Sky News on Tuesday that she would be back but she didn't know any details about the plot. She didn't say much else of any substance.

Great! I like her M!

But I was under the impression that she had already confirmed she was going to be on board for B23 quite a long time ago, hadn't she?

I completely agree, I really like her as M in the Craig era. I do think it should be her last because of her age and possibly go in a different direction with the M character.

I also think this is good news, Judi Dench is quality and I like her M. Despite my grumblings about her amount of screen time.
As above I think this was as expected. Perhaps we will complement her with a Q and a Moneypenny for Bond 23 in time :)

I never understood the hate for her. I always thought a woman as M was much more interesting then those old men, we had before. They were quite boring. No exception...so I am happy...

I hope it isn't true. If she comes back I hope they will tone down the role a lot. Maybe a cameo or something smaller.

Some time back, it was stated that the new story or script was Shocking.

I wonder whether Dench's M will be assassinated to provide the Shocking. In other threads asking about unused Fleming story elements, I (think I have) answered that the Golden Gun M assassination attempt would be a good one for the right actors. I do think the Dench Craig combo are the right actors.

Also, Bond has never gone for the Mission Impossible shock-traitor-type storylines that this and other franchises that last four films before being rebooted and rethunked, have used to law-of-dimishing-returns effect. They have always wisely stayed away from this - to my mind, a trait affording longevity. Maybe now, they can use one such Shock tactic to positive effect.

Anyway, time to get back in my basement ...

We've already had traitor plot twists in every film since TWINE. It's become a gimmick.

Erm. Oh dear. You are quite right. Excepting QoS? And the others were all female.

Anyway. Maybe to reflect, in the early stages, they never went down that route and after 20+ films, three or so traitors isn't so bad. (I am now remembering Koskov)

Perhaps then we can say the traitor storyline has not been a mainstay of the Bond stories.

That notwithstanding, an assassination attempt from within would be superb. Might mean a film without Craig doing much while he disappears to get brainwashed, so maybe an assassination from without.

Anyway, shoot the boss.

Ah! I found back this earlier CBn article I was thinking about:
http://commanderbond...pring-2011.html

In December 2009, she had already stated that she was going to be in B23 (except that at this time, she thought filming was due to begin in early 2011 :( )
It's nice she's been confirmed after the long delay!

Well, it was Peter Morgan making that statement, and he hasn't been involved with the project for a long time.

I've seen a number of people here and there wanting Dench's M to be assassinated. I've seen someone persistently making a case that she should be a villain in the next film, with M having been a traitor all along. Dislike that idea myself. But there has been speculation that this will be Dench's last film as M so it's anybody's guess right now.

Good news. To be honest I'm ready for a new (and male) M, but I didnt want it to be this film. The last two film did a good job in establishing the M/Bond relationship, and why M completely trusts 007 to do the right thing and lets him break all the rules. We need to see a film now with the payoff from that, where M just sends Bond off on a mission and lets him go about it unleashed.
