Because Mendes and Weisz used to be a couple (or so the gossip columns inform me).

To be fair to all concerned, it is, of course, more than possible that everyone's being extremely grown-up about everything and that there's no animosity among the trio of Craig, Mendes and Weisz. If not, though, then Mendes' participation in BOND 23 would suddenly seem to be very much in doubt.

I don't normally go in for gossip, but this could prove sticky. Weisz used to be involved with Mendes, but went on to a long-term relationship with director Darren Aronofsky. They were together for nine years and have a three year-old son. Meanwhile, after seperating from his wife (Kate Winslet), Mendes supposedly hooked up again with Weisz, who broke up with Aronofsky a just last month. I would like to think people could behave like responsible adults, but if all this is true, it's recent enough that it might leave some bad feelings and ill will.
