At least the Oct 14 announcement lead to two great Bond films.

We hardly knew you Mr Craig.
At least the Oct 14 announcement lead to two great Bond films.
To quote Roger Moore in FYEO "We are not dead yet"

Proves there is no such thing as bad publicity as CR must have been one of the most highly anticipated Bond films for a while.
It's been a great five years and kudos to Eon and the studio's for casting him.
I hope we have (at least) another two Craig films in the next five years.

Yeah, I remember the press conference well - watched it live on Sky News Australia (via Sky UK).
The best bit of the press conference was when they asked Martin Campbell if Bond was going to smoke and he said "No, James Bond is a role model and there are kids watching and so we don't want to have him smoking, we don't think it's appropriate"
and a journalist replied "He's still going to shoot people, though, right?"

You can imagine the questions if the press knew about the torture scene as well at that point!5 years of Bondage sounds like an adult movie version of Seven Years in Tibet.

Five years later, I am at yet another new job, but sadly have no new Bond news to go with it.

Yep, much to do about nothing and Craig smashed the doubters big time.Reminds me of all the venomous remarks people gave him for a year until the movie was released. It is interesting re-reading old posts from 5 years ago and see how so many peoples opinion changed once the film was released.
As soon as I saw Craig standing in the suit with his steely gaze, I was excited. I thought it would be a return to the early Connery/Dalton mould, and I was correct.

Happy 5th Anniversary, Mr. Craig. I hadn't seen Craig in anything at that point so I was neither highly enthused about nor terribly upset about the casting choice. It was rather amusing in retrospect to see how OTT the negative reaction to him prior to anyone seeing him in the role. I was mildly positive about Craig though I purposely avoided watching anything with him in it so I could judge his debut performance from as unbiased a perspective as possible. I think I was more looking forward to a decent version of Fleming's CR novel than anything else.
I'd only seen him in Our Friends in the North and Sylvia.
