With the recent talk of the history of MI6 book and inspirations for 007 i would like to mention two names who Fleming worked with and admired both have been muted as possible inspirations.
The first is Michael Mason a land owner in Oxford who left to become a fur traper in Canada and a Boxer (at one time he was a sparring partner for Jack Sharkey) he joined Naval Intelligence in WW2 with his most famous exploits taking part in Romania in an attempt to sabatage German shipping in Danube. In his book One Mans War he mentions an brawl on train in which he KO'd and killed to Gestapo thugs sent to kill him, the other man Duane Hudson was an ex rugby player, boxer, skier and worked for SOE in Yugoslavia during the war.
