I like LTK's score. It's not the best by any means, but definitely better than some i.e. Goldeneye, TMWTGG, MR.

Can't agree with that, especially GOLDENEYE and MOONRAKER.

Me either. Apart from the gunbarrel cue, I don't think Kamen's LTK score is particularly memorable.

Yeah, that music used during the car chase in GoldenEye really bugged me. Especially in the beginning...

The tank chase music is what really bugged me.

Really? That's funny because it's the one time in the film where you hear the Bond theme without Eric Serra's distorted theme.

It captures the mood of the film brilliantly.

Great use of the Bond theme, as already mentioned.

Wasn't 'Dirt Love' a rejected New Kids On The Block song? that eventually evolved into 'The Right Stuff', I remember I either read it on

here, or it might have been on Bondiam Mayhem - back in the days of Ezboard.

"Apparently" it was deemed to risky for New Kids On The Block.

I must say, having listened to it, I've come to the conclusion that it's *ahem* utter bollocks, and nothing like anything they have done, but I could be wrong.

Just as the film took a pretty bold risk changing the formula around for a Bond film, the change in music made it fit more for it. Now, I don't think it was the best soundtrack by far, but it seemed to work for the film.

I like the gunbarrel theme, the Bond theme at the end of the first track (James and Felix on their way to church) and the Bond theme in Licence Revoked. The rest is pretty much unmemorable, but not as bad as several people claim.

Exactly, and it stands out like a sore thumb. An omen of what was to come later with David Arnold.

The pretitles score is maybe the best in the series, up there with Thunderball and TSWLM.

Without playing the movie again, who could possible remember ?  It might be great, but the film is a s-n-o-r-e, a TV cops-chasing-drug-dealers movie, though not as good as a number of those.

Ugh.

What a waste of the talent which gathered to make the film.  Really -- who could have thought that script was Bond-worthy ?

Sorry, if I appear to be controversial here, but I actually find it Michael Kamen's score more pleasing to the ear, to listen to,away from the movie, than David Arnolds' scores for The  World Is Not Enough, Die Another Day, Casino Royale and Quantum of Solace.

I also think the score works well within the movie too. So yes, I like it,

Some tracks from License to kill are very epic and excellent. The actions scenes sound very well.
I don't find that Michael Kamen was a great composer but his work and James Bond is probably one of the best.

I can't really judge Kamen's work outside of Bond, as I can't say that I'm familiar enough with any of those scores to really pass judgment on them, but I definitely agree that his work on Licence to Kill is quite good.

The music he uses for the gunbarrel is the best gunbarrel music of the entire series, and the track titled "Pam" is one of my favorite tracks in the entire series.

Didn't care for it when it came out. Too bland and has that horrible late 80's production. That goes for the Gladys Knight theme as well. My guess is that the Eric Clapton theme would have sounded equally dated by now (I'm not a big fan of his).

However, the gunbarrel theme is great, and it shows that Kamen was good at taking the JB theme and interpreting it in his own fashion (my biggest disappointment with Newman's SF soundtrack).

When it was released in 1989 for me it was a big dissapointment, especialy comparing it with the Barry scores, but if I look back it was not a bad score. It's ok, with a few good tracks, like the already mentioned gun barrel and his version of the J.B. theme. The so-called ninja music is a bore.

The cd version is not great, a lot of the score isn't there and instead of you got a couple of throway-songs. Only the titlesong and end song are good, it's a pitty there is not a little more of the score on the disc.

Kamen can do a lot better, because his scores for X-men, Die Hard and the Lethal Weapon movies are a lot more exciting!

Just so I understand it: what exactly do you mean by this "horrible late 80´s production"?

And - isn´t everything dated? The hottest music right now will be dated tomorrow.  And rightfully so, since everything can only be of its time.  That is a beautiful thing, IMO.

Yeah, there's nothing particularly "late '80s" about the production on the underscore. No audible FM synths, drum machines, samplers or snares with gated reverb. I believe Kamen used a Kurzweil 250 on the score (his trademark synth), but it's mostly buried in the mix.

I don't agree. The most beautiful Kamen's musics are probably License to kill (Gunbarrel + Licence revoked) and Band of brothers ("à la" John Williams).

I hate Die Hard score

The gunbarrel etc he didn't realy compose himself ofcourse. I ment the score other than the Norman/Barry compositions.

His Bondtheme versions are ok, but for me a lightversion in comparison with the realy awesome Barry versions.

Kamen's score was a bit cheesy. I mean, I understood the direction they were going for, but really makes this Bond film seem dated, and that was something Cubby has been against for such a long time until he passed. The piece that plays while Pam and Bond are stuck on the boat makes me cringe. It's just sooooo lame. Now, I understand they were going for a latin approach, but they should have saved it for when we got into Isthumus City and not during the first house in Florida. I've gotten more and more used to it, but in no way do I like it nor have any intention to buy the soundtrack.

I love Kamen´s score. And I want it to be released in an expanded and remastered version by one of the wonderful specialty labels like La-La-Land, Intrada or Kritzerland.

Until then, I probably have to stick to this one: http://www.amazon.de...words=Christmas

Apart from the fact that there is hardly any of it on the OST, Moonraker is an absolutely superb score.
Goldeneye, there is too much of the score on the soundtrack already as its crap.

Back on subject, LTK. I hated it when I came out of seeing it for the first time, but its now one of my most played scores and the gunbarrel theme has been my ringtone for as long as I remember.

I love the Kamen score and hope we get an expanded version in the future.

Still an uneven Bond film for me, but its a classic one IMO. I see 1962-1989 as one series of Bond films and then 1995- current as a very different series of films.

I recently gave the LTK score a spin. I prefer many of the John Barry ones, but I enjoy the other Bond scores as well.

At 8.24 of the 9.10 long track Licence Revoked, just after the Bond guitar riff has started, you can just about (*just!*) make out the sound of a crowd of people cheering during the recording. It's like it was the last day of recording and visitors to the studio were watching and couldn't contain themselves during that moment.
It might just be my ears but I could hear it on the vinyl LP and can still hear it on my CD.
Or it could be tinnitus.
