The rules will be the same as last time and are as simple as that:
The game won’t be on exact results, but only on which teams will make it to the next round. There will be 8 groups of four teams (A-H), winner and runner-up of which will make it to the usual K.O. rounds: Round of 16, Quarterfinals, Semifinals and Finals. All predictions for the complete tournament will have to be submitted before the opening game South Africa vs. Mexico kicks off on June 11th 2010 at 16:00 (SAST). This thread will be closed at this point, a PDF list of all entries will be compiled and posted (in order to make it easier to follow the game). Until then, participants can edit and change their list as often as they want to. Attention: due to new technical features on the CBn forums, the time for members to edit their own posts is limited. Should you find yourself unable to edit your post, just send me a PM with your desired changes in time and they will be taken into account. Or simply post a new list in this thread.
In order to keep the game manageable, the number of participiants is limited to 32 - exatly the number of countries taking part in the World Cup. You’re in when you post your first list, first come first served.
Correct predictions score the following points:
Groups to Round of 16 (16 Teams, scores 2,5 points each, 40 points total)
Round of 16 to Quarterfinals (8 teams, scores 5 points each, 40 points total)
Quarterfinals to Semifinals (4 teams, scores 10 points each, 40 points total)
Semifinals to Finals (2 teams, scores 20 points each, 40 points total)
World Champion: (1 team, scores 40 points)
Maximum score: 200 points. Your predictions have to make sense and follow the tournament’s logic.

If you want to get an idea of how the game works and what happened last time, please visit the threads for the CBn 2006 World Cup Game: Submission thread and discussion thread
Please use this thread only for submitting your entries to the Game. There will be a separate discussion thread for the CBn’s 2010 Football World Cup Game, in which I’m also going to post intermediate results and comments. For general discussion on the 2010 World Cup, unrelated to this game, please use this thread.
Not certain if I’ll be able to post updates on a daily basis like last time, but I’m aiming at it. As last time, the game will start a bit slow with not much happening within the first week or so. The fun will most likely kick in when the second rounds of group matches have been played, so please be patient. Interesting fact about the 2006 Game: the winner was the only participiant who did not have his own national team taking part in the tournament, Double-Oh-Zero from Canada
To give you an idea of how to submit your entries (please use this as a template), here’s my personal list (not final).
Round of 16:
A: FRA, URU; B: ARG, GRE; C: ENG, USA; D: GER, SRB; E: NED, CAM; F: SVN, ITA; G: BRA, POR; H: ESP, SUI
Quarter-finals:
FRA, ENG, ARG, GER, NED, BRA, CAM, ESP
Semi-finals:
ENG, BRA, GER, ESP
Final:
BRA, ESP
Winner:
ESP
As last time, I will take part in the game myself. My prize will be the fact that I can keep a double item from my collection and that I spare the shipping costs
Let the mayhem begin. Have fun, Good Luck to everyone and may the best team win!
