In Jackal he was even more fascinating than the Jackal himself.

The man is a master thief: he stole the movie, and one day I'll have the evidence to convict him.
I have a lead - it's called
Ronin.

I would say both were equally fascinating, Fox and Lonsdale were perfect antipodes, wonderful film with two brilliant actors, a great, intruiging story and perfect direction by Zimmermann. One of the highlights in Lonsdale's career.

Yeah but to me he was more fascinating. In these type of stories the badguy is almost always the coolest and they don't do much with the goodguy but i was really intrigued by Lonsdale's Lebel. He seemed to be really sharp and precise in tracking the Jackal, like when he takes charge in the hotel so efficiently that you couldn't imagine a piece of hair floating by without his approval meanwhile he's also seen sleeping like a log or feeding pigeons humbly, he gave off this modest charm.

The Day Of The Jackal is one is my favourite films, and Michael Lonsdale's Claude Lebel was one of the best parts in it. He seemed such an unlikely character to take on this ruthless assassin, yet he got his quarry in the end.
When Lonsdale was announced as the main villain in MR, my only previous viewing of him was in "Jackal", so I thought this was unlikely casting too. But I was proved wrong. There are some things I would take issue with about MR, but not its main cast, and Michael Lonsdale was a superb Bond villain.
A belated Happy Birthday for Mr Drax and M. Lebel.
