Wow, it may have promoted 007, but it didn't do much for Macca's street cred, did it? You'd think that opening bit would be too cheesy even for Sir Paul. Let this be a lesson, kids: lay off the pot.

If memory serves me correctly (it was this or a similar show) the following day the newspapers were full of pictures of the exploding piano, which supposedly had more explosives than were deemed necessary.

My uncle told me about this special years ago and how cool it was at the time to hear that song along with all the clips of LALD. Now through the magic of You Tube I can see it. This would have made a great extra on the LALD DVD.

Keith Moon was probably envious of the exploding piano.

I had seen this special probably closer to 1978 or 1979 on Canadian television CBC. Being a big Beatles fan I got into Paul's song and was the sole reason I tuned into watch Live and Let Die on ABC in 1980. Good thing I stuck around after the opening titles, because that 15 year old went to bed amazed at what he had just seen... boat jumps.,..hang gliders...running across crocodiles backs.... There was no turning back. I was hooked, and obviously still am 30 years later.

So much so that McCartney was badly wounded when it went off. I believe a chunk of the piano cut his arm. A day in the life of rock n' roll.
