Underrated subject here. You all think immediately of tuxedos, I am sure.

I love the elaborate costumes that Solitaire wears when she's doing the tarot cards, especially the big spangled red headset and dress. Julie Harris was the costume designer, a heavyweight in the film costume industry. I really like how Seymour's make up and the art direction surrounding her is all choreographed, like something from a Fellini film.

I loved Emma Porteous' costumes for OP, AVTAK and TLD (another big name designer of films such as Supergirl and Aliens). There's some really striking, intelligent design in there. I cite the example of Kara, Saunders and Bond at the opera, where Kara walks away to leave the two men talking. You can see Kara walk into the background, the only person in a striking blue colour, made more significant by the sequins that dazzles the lens bokah as she's out of focus. It really punctuates the conversation dramatically.

QOS too I thought was fantastic, just gorgeous, for keeping nearly everyone in stark black and white. I love the strking contrast which works beauitfully against those lavish sets, and also turn the film into near black and white such as in the oil girl scene at the hotel.

I love the little quirks of costume design still allowed to seep through - such as MAYDAY's Gaultier head-gear or ONATOPP's ugly but flamboyant dresses.

That's true about Onatopp's dresses being ugly but flamboyant. I think Famke Jansen is one of the few actresses who could pull that stuff off without the character looking silly (in the wrong sense).

Can I also say Thunderball, too? That's pretty much iconic for the wardrobe of 007 himself, from the shirts to the shorts. Another heavyweight designer there (Anthony Mendleson).

Grace Jones' outfits were killer, indeed. Loved the outfit at the horse race, which looked like something from Return of the Jedi.

I thought Carey Lowell looked particularly sensational during the first of the casino scenes in LTK. I suppose the gown was beaded - the texture reminded me of a Rowntree blackcurrant fruit pastille. How the lower part unvelcroed to turn the gown into a cocktail dress plus wrap was ingenious and more than a little saucy.

Also, Roger’s gorilla costume in OP. I mean, it’s not original in concept or anything, but how quickly and silently he’s able to get in and out of that thing!? It’s got to be acknowledged for its surprising feasibility and user-friendliness alone!

Agreed.
Diana Rigg's dress in the PTS of OHMSS. All the costumes in that film were great.
Bond's pink shirt in TB, that was perfect for Connery.
I like the fact Jaws wore braces in Moonraker, that just worked.

Let's show the '70s some love, baby, with the far out threads from Live and Let Die. I especially like when Kananga and friends arrive back at their office and they change from their business clothes into their Shaft outfits. One of the guys gets a big smile on his face when he gets his.

Bond and Felix look groovy in their black turtlenecks during the finale.

Jane Seymour does get some pretty colorful costumes as Solitare. They had one on display when the Bond exhibit toured a few years ago. And Samedi stands out among the baddies. I dig that outfit during the nightclub act when Bond arrives in San Monique and the pimp-like one he wears when he pulls Solitare's card.

The suit-jacket that flips up into a sniper's turtleneck in TLD; that was damned memorable to me, the first time I watched it.

Also, Fatima Blush's outrageous costumes... which were designed by Barbara Carrera, herself! Shows just what sort of an off-kilter woman she is...

I loved Elektra's dress, in the part where she tortured Bond.

I also love Miranda Frost's dress, from the part in the ice palace when she talks to Bond and Jinx.


I admit I know nothing about dress making, but after talking about these things with my mum (who does know a lot about it). I do think Lindy Hemming has a wonderful talent and ability to allow a character's inner person and emotions to be reflected in the clothes they wear, whilst being very subtle.

I was never fond of the clown costume until I released it was a perfect fit. If Roger Moore was going to portray Bond as a clown, he may as well dress the part.

I have a Total Film magazine special focusing on the 80s and in there they show the awful fashions from back then including mullets, knee socks, suspenders, female shoulder jackets and then snoods with a picture of Grace Jones underneath, although the only film mention in there of this is AVTAK the talk about how it's a cross between a monk and something else. Apparently this was an 80s fashion?

Oh yea and Thunderball, loved the pink shirt he wears in there.
