I like that new books are coming out. But I’m not really sure how this will be any different to The Secret World of 007, or the James Bond Encyclopedia, for that matter.

Wow. Another DK book.

Don't have any other thoughts about it.

Interesting. It's only £9.99, I might pick this up.

That is true since those two books already have alot of info on Bond and Bond world in general. So really how would this book be different? What would it have that those two books didn't have or has not talk about yet.

Looks like we'll be getting four new DK books total.

http://www.thebookse...-with-bond.html

Somehow "beating a dead horse" doesn't seem enough here. Maybe "re-beating a throughly beaten dead horse"?

I have always been into Sadism, necrophilia, and beastiality. So anything to do with beating dead horses gets my attention.
At £9.99 it will join my collection

And are you the same doublenoughtspy that is selling a book about OHMSS on Amazon for £46? All four DK books together come in cheaper than your single book.

Pot ... kettle ... black comes to mind.

Considering I've read The Making of On Her Majesty's Secret Service, that's probably a very telling statement regarding the DK books.

I don't even have to read these upcoming DK books to know that none of them will hold a candle to the OHMSS book. That book was worth every penny. The DK books? Doubtful but we'll see. The only way they might compete is if they are photo heavy books utilizing photos other than the usual ones that get used over and over again.

What I don't get is, why now? The next Bond film is due, when, November 2011? Why not wait until the next film?

I suggest that the Making of OHMSS will be everything these DK books won't be: throughly researched, fascinating, essential and NEW.

The DK books will be the usual reheats that have blighted Bond books for years.

Hell, the "Book of Bond" isn't even an original title but a straight-lift from Kingsley Amis book from 1966!!!

You obviously have not seen doublenoughtspy's OHMSS book. It is in a completely different league than these DK books, which I expect will pretty much be picture books (and familiar pictures at that). It's also a book that will only go up in value. Not so with these.

I'm very curious about these new books from DK. I'll probably check them out before picking them up. Is John Cork involved with the books at all?

I really need to pick up the color version of On The Tracks of 007 by Martjn Mulder!!!

I looked at the On Her Majesty's Secret Service making of book. Very cool. A bit pricey, but that does look like a very interesting read!!!

My "The Book of BOND" arrived this morning

160 pages, one main photo per page and a couple of visual images of the text.
No new information; but the pix are good quality.
The £9.99 price tag was discounted from Amazon.

Roll on 2011 and Mr. Deaver's Project X

Isn't there a total of 4 books coming? I would love to see them.

Worth picking up?

Not sure whether it's the chicken or the egg coming first here, but I seem to recall that particularly long dry spells between James Bond films seem more populated by increased book releases.

Witness the period between Die Another Day and Casino Royale; before that, between Licence to Kill and GoldenEye. Then, to now add the next James Bond novel that's been announced (and discussed elsewhere here on CBn).

So-- is this a sign of expectations? a reflection of insider-knowledge?

That's my only take on this.

I'll give this a flick through in store, but based on this information, I won't be wasting my money. Sounds like an early childhood picture book with dumbed down language scattered here and there. I'm confident all this content is already present in existing books I own, and displayed in a better manner.

The Book Of Bond and its companion volume concerning 007's vehicles are on the shelves at my local bookshop. I've had a look at both this afternoon.

Well produced, as you would expect from DK, with lots of pictures -nearly all pictures in fact, accompanied by quotes from the scripts of each particular Bond film. However, there's not enough by way of background to each film's story, and nothing at all concerning the "behind the scenes" stuff.

Should appeal to the general reader or casual Bond fan. A sort of coffee table book style, only smaller - I expect that when the other two volumes on girls and villains appear later on, you'll be able to get all four on one coffee table!

I was pleasantly surprised by them, (I have the Book of Bond and Bond Cars and Vehicles). I was expecting something paperback sized but was wrong. As as an earlier poster said, they are more for the casual fan rather than the die hard Bond collector but for the sub £10 prices, they are worth it.

Will probably get the next two as well.

Thanks for the posts. I'll probably end up getting all 4. Just kind of anxious for more James Bond products.

I've enjoyed the DK James Bond Encyclopedia a great deal too!

The first 2 Bond books come to the US in August and then the other 2 are in October.

They are a complete waste of paper. Another cynical ploy to make gullible Bond fans part with their well earned cash. Nothing new. Trolling out the usual stills. I think between the two books I counted a handful I had not seen before. Text that quotes the films, so no effort there then! Save your money for Charles's OHMSS book. You will be amply rewarded. And please stop putting money into these cynical ventures.

I had a flip through these books at Sydney Airport the other day - I've got to admit, despite lacking new insight into the Bond saga, these are some very nice-looking books. Top marks for presentation and they'd look nice on the shelf as a set of four.

Good to know. I'd like to look at them before deciding if I will buy. I've decided to try and pick up the Making of OHMSS book for now. From what I've read and heard about that one, it's well worth the $54 cost.

I am curious about the 4 new DK books too. Hopefully they are done well enough that I'll pick them up too.

I only really collect these books for the beautiful cross sections of various lairs.

Does one include that?
