Agreed!Does anyone think this is right behind the DB5 as the best looking of the Bond cars? Oh if only to drive that around in 1960s Tokyo.
Though there was a hell of a lot of cool bluescreen work in that film and even some rope pulling crew members moving it - so it barely drove in Tokyo (!)

But yeah, it is a great car.

Wasn't there a tale that AKI couldn't drive at all so in one scene (at OSATO CHEMICALS forecourt) some burly crew members had to pull or push the car into frame...?Is there a reason it needed to be pulled?
It was always my favourite toy on the Corgi Bond car shelf.

Could be. Michael Caine's inability to drive caused problems when Get Carter was being shot.Wasn't there a tale that AKI couldn't drive at all so in one scene (at OSATO CHEMICALS forecourt) some burly crew members had to pull or push the car into frame...?
Never had the Corgi Toyota, but I did build an Airfix version. As I recall, it self-destructed when the tyres melted.

It did drive a lot in Tokyo, but many of those scenes ended on the cutting room floor (and the Toyota bosses were not very happy with that).Agreed!Does anyone think this is right behind the DB5 as the best looking of the Bond cars? Oh if only to drive that around in 1960s Tokyo.

I did an article on the 2000GT for CBn a few years ago, but due to some unfurtante technical glitch it was lost. Will see that I get it restored and repost it.

It's amazing how 60s cars like the DB5 or 2000GT managed to be both outlandish and classy at the same time.

The cabriolets (or 'convertibles') where especially made for the movie and were never available for sale. The car interior was very small, and they couldn't have done proper shooting in a closed version with a tall man like Connery in it.Beautiful car, wasn't it the only 2000GT that was a cabriolet?

Now that you mention it that does sound familiar. Perhaps they mentioned it on one of the Bond documentaries on the YOLT DVD?
