1. Casino Royale - Vesper collects the money from the Swiss Bank in a big metal case.
2. Casino Royale - Mr White walks off with the case.
3. QOS - MI6 trace Slate by means of a marked set of notes - from that case?
If that's how it works...
...who marked the notes and why? The Swiss bank? MI6 through the bank? And if they marked the notes because they didn't trust either Bond or Vesper to deliver, doesn't it seem all a bit of a waste of time for Vesper to be allowed to collect them? Why not arrest her on the spot?
Fully accepting that I am debating Bondfilmlogic here.

So not sure they really traced anything from the case White walked off with in Venezia.

I concur. It's not the same money.I haven't seen the films recently, so I may be missing something, but if memory serves, in QoS, they trace Slate not because of marked notes from the case, but because he is in possession of a stack of notes from the same series as a note found in Mitchell's wallet (Mitchell being M's bodyguard killed by Bond in Siena).
So not sure they really traced anything from the case White walked off with in Venezia.

Quantum has it, somewhere.... That's all the audience knows.
It's in Mr. White's magic hat.
