Pierce Brosnan models suits for GQ

Why do you do this man? B)

I mean we all know you look good in a suit, but you're not a damn model!

Thoughts?

While I don't have any problem with this generally (I think he makes a great model and that it's every bit as appropriate an adjunct for him as any other actor), I don't think this worked well for him. He's better at the "cool" and "sophisticated," as opposed to goof-off on the street.

For those who view him as tops among a certain characterization of James Bond, he'd do well to leverage that.

This looks like a pretty typical GQ photo shoot. Get an actor, athlete, or musician, to model some high end clothes & have them do goofy, or maybe out of character is better, poses.

Money is money, I guess.

And, from Brosnan's perspective, I can't imagine it hurting his image: People who love him won't be bothered; people who don't, well, the laugh's on them here.

Brosnan usually goofs off when his photo is being taken, but he does that looking quite handsome. Lucky man. Very lucky man. Most celebrities do some sort of fashion spread.

Strange in the years between Goldeneye and DAD Brosnan aged quite a bit. In the years since DAD he hasn't aged all that much? Depends on his weight which has fluctuated a lot more than during (and before) his bond tenure.

So could he or could he not credibly play James Bond today?

IMO Brosnan could have done at least two more bond films (if he kept in shape). I always thought he looked a lot older than he was in DAD because of the lighting and make up department. Not to mention the digital color alteration in the PTS which made him look pale.
(The original 2 disc dvd has a comparison of the before and after. Before the digital change he looked healthier and had a better skin tone.) If you look at The Tailor of Panama made just a year before DAD, he looks like he is much younger. Due to some hair dye and better make up. The difference? That movie didn't cost 120 million dollars.

Hell he looked older than he was in parts of TWINE, check out The Thomas Crowne Affair which was shot around the same time. Lighting, make-up etc. He looks much better in that film.

I thought maybe he wanted to age gracefully as Bond, he just aged too fast. When you look at him in GE and then again in DAD which was only 7 years, he looks 15 years older. He has defiantly aged better into his late 50's than he did into his late 40's.

As for Bond today? Possibly, although at this point there wouldn't be anyway to hide the fact he is close to 60. It would definantly have to be a "last hurrah" type of story. But with that said, I'm happy with Daniel Craig ;o)

Well, I always saw him as a male model and not a proper actor. So, in the end, it all figures.

To be honest I'm surprised how badly those shots come across, but I sure as hell wouldn't mind looking that silly if I were paid a king's ransom for standing around and changing my clothes over an afternoon.

Yeah, I guess.

But isn't there something to be said for "branding," and protecting that desired self-image as an actor? Or is it a matter, rather, of approaching the profession like a Burt Lancaster - by which I mean, to show one's range as an actor is the height of the demonstration of skill.

Seem to recall someone asking Harrison Ford why he played roles that weren't as "good" as his heroic (or quasi-heroic) parts, such as Indy or Han Solo. He said something like that would be too much like having a real job, going to work every day.

So: Pierce Brosnan -- a wild and crazy guy!

I'm not complaining.

Nothing wrong with male models! What else would I adorn my bedroom walls with?

What are you talking about, plenty of famous actors and actresses do ad campaigns. Antonio Banderas, Scarlett Johansson, James Franco, Nicole Kidman, and tons more. The ads are tasteful and well done, and in my opinion help Pierce's image.

Also, don't forget Pierce is not the only Bond to model. Sean Connery just did ads for Louis Vuitton.

Of course; I do know that.

I was just saying that, to me, Brosnan was more of a model/actor than an actor/model. That is to say, he's a fine looking guy who happened to act, and not a fine actor who happened to model.

That being said, "Have you ever wondered if there was more to life, other than being really, really, ridiculously good looking?"

Derek rules!

It really hurts to be around guys who are really really ridiculously good looking. They get all the action while we stand in the shadows. Sniff sniff.

Well, I agree that he looks so damn good on these suits and that he's really cool, but that's the job of models and not of men like him and general men who played Bond!

Its actually quite common for actors to do fashion spreads for magazines, especially when promoting a new project. If I recall, Jeffrey Donovan (Burn Notice) did a fashion spread for GQ magazine not too long ago.
