I'm so glad Marvin Hamlisch has returned to the big screen with his score for 'The Informant'. Quite a nice and easy going score in which he uses his beloved instrument the piano. There are some big similarities between his score for 'The Informant' and for his Bond film 'The Spy Who Loved Me'. The music score for 'The Informant' is nominated for a 2010 Golden Globe. Here's a piece from the score:

The inevitable question: Could Marvin Hamlisch pull it off a 2nd time for a Bond film?

Damn, there was me hoping for a Bond 77-esque comparison.

All it turned out to be was a slightly saccharine typical sentimental Hollywood score.

'The Informant' is a comedy, not a Bond film....what do you expect? Anyway....apart from 'Bond'77', Marvin Hamlisch still uses his piano as a main instrument. Also, the score for TSWLM includes more than just 'Bond'77'.

Anddd......I still have to see David Arnold get a Golden Globe or Oscar nomination.

Spy has a terrible score if you listen to it on it's own, but oddly enough, it's so different it's great. I don't think much of this either. Never really liked Hamlisch as a composer.

Bond 77 is easily the most ingenious part of the soundtrack, and also the best. Never cared much for the romantic Nobody Does It Better instrumentals.

Still, 'The Spy Who Loved Me' is the only Bond film that got nominated for 3 Oscars: 'Best Art Direction', 'Best Score' and 'Best Song'. Even John Barry did not manage to get 2 Oscar nom's for one of his Bond films....

Considering how fickle the Oscars board has always been, it doesn't surprise me. They obviously had a thing for Hamlisch at that point in the seventies, and it the decision was obviously based more on nepotism than the quality of the score.

Which is a crime!

Every one of Barry's score's blows TSWLM out of the water! Although I must confess, TSWLM is just too funky a score not to love. B)

BUT, no soundtrack/music score for James Bond has ever won an Oscar nomination.

In the thread about the missing tracks on TMWTGG and TSWLM, you said that TSWLM did not receive a nomination for it's score. Changed your mind?

I love Marvin Hamlisch as a composer, TSWLM is a top 5 Bond soundtrack for me. Got to love the score for The Sting as well.
