Not bad. Syfy does a hi-def broadcast, so it'll be an opportunity to see TSWLM and YOLT etc in HD in the absence of Blu-rays.

It just happens that I just bought my first HDTV and will be enjoying this marathon in high-def. By the way I already own the HD versions of YOLT and OHMSS from iTunes which I plan to play on my HD TV through an Apple TV, which I just bought as well.

Glad to see this is back & not on Spike because they turned every movie into a marathon of commercials.
That is true but I don't find the Syfy channel as any better and in fact I consider them worse but at least there in HD. The reason I say this is that Syfy plays a lot of commercials and I would not be surprised if it comes close to Spike TV but the real offender is the fact that some of the Bond films are cut down for time and Spike never did that.

I didn't realize that SyFy was editing the movies. I was just looking at the run time. A movie like For Your Eyes Only would have a 3 hour run time on Spike but it has a 2 & 1/2 hour run time on SyFy.Glad to see this is back & not on Spike because they turned every movie into a marathon of commercials.

** As an fyi for one of the mods, the link at the top of this thread takes you to the Fleming OHMSS page.

I think it's kind of cool the series now gets slots on the major U.S. holidays. Turkey, football and Bond!

It is odd but I believe that Spike TV still owns the rights to DAD since they just played it last weekend. However, it's strange that Moonraker will not be shown.Isn't it odd that the Syfy channel would NOT air Moonraker or Die Another Day, the two most sci-fi Bond films?

Since they removed the sci-fi from their name, it makes sense they would remove it from their programming too.Isn't it odd that the Syfy channel would NOT air Moonraker or Die Another Day, the two most sci-fi Bond films?

Anyway, I've been on vacation where I've had access to some HDTV, so I caught THUNDERBALL on SyfyHD and it was glorious. 1080p and 120Hz auto motion plus the Lowry restoration equals one satisfied 00Twelve.

it's too bad they're editing them. they took out the scene in FRWL when Kerim's office is bombed. Took out Bond's poisoning in CR. who knows what else.
And the whole desert scene in TSWLM before Bond enters Egypt.

How is the quality of the HD movies from Itunes on your tv? Are these up to blu ray quality? Probably not? Very curious in that there are several Bond films in HD on Itunes that are not on blu ray as of yet!!!

I am glad you asked. It depends on the size of your TV and whether you have a 720p or a 1080p HDTV. On my set up I have a 26 inch Samsung 720p HDTV with an Apple TV hooked up via the HDMI. With this set the quality of iTunes HD is about the same as Blu-ray or at least I really can't tell the difference between the two. I watched Thunderball the other day on my TV and it looked absolutely amazing with the iTunes HD version, I didn't buy the blu-ray of this film due to the fact I wanted to play it in HD on my computer and I already have the special features on my 2 disc DVD version. I am willing to bet that you really wouldn't notice the difference until you reached a really big screen size like around the 50 inch mark but even then they still blow HD channels out of the water. Here's an article comparing iTunes HD against Blu-ray and HD broadcasts and I agree with the authors statement: "If you’re using a TV without the ability to display 1080p video—especially if you don’t have a receiver capable of decoding the Blu-Ray Disc’s DTS-HD signal—an Apple TV rental will be an almost complete substitute for renting the Blu-Ray." The only warning I would give is that I purchased The Living Daylights in HD but it had an interruption in the video that was a mistake on MGM's part when making the file but iTunes has reported the problem to them and it should get fixed in about a month. If your in a similar situation that I am in then I would defiantly buy some of the itunes HD versions of the Bond movies that are not available on Blu-ray.

thanks for the post! I appreciate it. I'm still on the bubble a bit. I read the following Apple TV review:

I would most likely be watching the films on a 54" screen. I'm a bit of a video junkie too. So... I'm not sure if I'll end up doing it. It seems that the limitations of video of a download and a blu ray are still pretty great... I would have to invest in an Apple TV device as well. Or figure out how to get Itunes from my Mac to play on the tv, which may be possible. Hmm.
I wish MGM/SPECTRE would finish releasing the films on blu ray...

I totally understand. The only reason I like buying iTunes HD movies is that 1. I have an Apple TV and 2. I wanted to have an HD version I can play on my computer which in order to due so with a Blu-ray is a complicated process which I want to avoid. I would probably go with the Blu-ray's when they come out since you already have the equipment I assume. Actually, I had bought these iTunes HD movies before I got an HDTV set up and just played them on my computer since they looked amazing but when I decided to go HD I knew I had to put the cost of Apple TV in the pot and after I have got it I have gotten more HD movies from iTunes (all Bond films since their selection is not the best as of yet and I think Thunderball is the oldest movies available to purchase in HD). I agree about MGM being Spectre because it seems they always find a way to make releasing the Bond films a chore like how it took them almost 2 years just to release OHMSS as an individual single disc DVD. Plus, they like to release a bunch of mediocre Mpeg 2 Blu-rays like Hoosiers and The Graduate. Lets hope Time-Warner gets a hold of MGM since I would be willing to bet that they would release the Bond Blu-rays immediately since the transfers are already done they just have to be released and I don't think they would care about waiting until Bond 23 is released.
