While I am completely enjoying the direction of the James Bond movies now with Daniel Craig, I will always wonder what one more would have been like with Pierce. To me, he is Bond. I think he deserved to give it one last shot and it would have been great to say goodbye to him as 007 knowing that it would be his last.

What I also find interesting is that while he was 007, he always talked about making the character more realistic, more human and while there are some elements of that is his movies, I guess the producers were too scared to mess with the formula. It is a shame because he could have given us one more great one! But I am glad that I am not the only one that feels that way and I enjoy reading this story about what one more could have been.

I'm not picking on your post specifically, but it is representative of a number of posts in this thread -- the assumption that if Brosnan would have had another film it would have/could have somehow been great. Where's the proof?

He had four films, all arguably different, which says something there. There's just as much chance his final film would have been along the lines of his others and people would have grown tired of his portrayal by that point. Only a few fans may have been concerned at his having some kind of appropriate send-off.

Really, DAD was an 'appropriate' send-off. It referenced just about every Bond movie ever and threw everything but the cleaner's mop into the mix. DAD was a celecbration of Bond at its best and its silliest. It was almost a compilation reel of Bond's Greatest Hits.

After DAD, there was literally nowhere else for Brosnan's Bond to go. Casino Royale and a reboot was the only option.

There does seem to be an unspoken agreement among some Bond fans that Brosnan's Bond 21 would definitely have been a down to earth "gritty" Bond film. I'm not convinced. From what I recall early word on Bond 21 (very early, like a month or two after DAD opened) suggested that it would be "more of the same". I'm not sure Bond 21 with Broza wouldn't have been the Moonraker to his Spy Who Loved Me rather than the FYEO to his Moonraker. I'm not saying this would have been a bad thing, indeed I get the feeling I would have been more interested in Broza's Moonraker than I would be his FYEO.

Imagine, what if Die Another Day wasn't the swan-song for the original cinematic James Bond and if Pierce Brosnan got to do a fifth Bond film that would have been 007's final adventure before the CR reboot.

Except DAD was not the swan song for the original cinematic James Bond, that would be either DAF or NSNA (depending on your pov). The Bond series has had somewhat of a reboot every time an actor changes. There is no way Brosnan's Bond could have battled Dr. No in 1962.

I agree!

And I definitely take DAF, NSNA doesn't exist for me as a real Bond movie. In fact, having said that... I don't take any of the Brosnan's as proper Bond movies, but that's just a personal thing of never being truly convinced by Brosnan as a real portrayer of 007, I see him (and his movies) more like a comic book version of the character or as an authorized parody.
