I sincerely doubt that DA can pull out any stops, he has shown with CR & QoS how little composing strength he posses.

Agreed there. David Arnold's scores are like fast switch muscle fibres. Good for short bursts, but little to no stamina. He simply can't handle the long soundtracks he aims for, without frequently resorting to padding and clumsy underscore.

He should think about allowing more silence in the next Bond film, and discuss the idea with Sam Mendes. Have the music enter and leave only at points that genuinely require its presence, and make sure it isn't saying exactly the same thing as the performances and sound effects department. A unique element.

Try and get a 45 minute running time for the score - as crazy as that may sound in this day and age.

I know that Thomas Newman has been a frequent collaborator with Sam Mendes. Could this mean that there might be a slight chance that he could be composer for the film? Just a thought, although I'm sure it's probably already been discussed.

If we're talking Newman's, I'd prefer David Newman myself. His score for Serenity is one of my favorite aspects of that film (among many others).

I agree - sadly he is by far the most under-rated of the Newman boys - which really isn't fair. He did some rather lovely romance/action pieces for the otherwise rather forgetable Billy Zane movie "The Phantom". A recommended listen if you haven't already...

He gets mixed reviews from me, he was awful in the Brozzer films but so far he has been brilliant in the Craig films but I think that he should DEFINATELY RETURN for Bond 23 just for continuity purposes, Bond 23 cannot afford to take too many risks being the 50th anniversary film.

Bond do people seek continuity? Bond has never been about that. Quite the opposite in fact.

What I mean is that the producers cannot afford to take the risk of having a poor, inexperienced composer in place of the reasionably reliable David Arnold for such a monumental film in the series.

Not taking risks is what lead to the bland Brosnan era.

I definitely want David Arnold to return but if we're suggestion other composers to do the job at the top of my list would be Micheal Giacchino (LOST, The Incredibles, Star Trek, Ratatouille, Up, Mission: Impossibe III and Ghost Protocol).

David Arnold hasn't been asked to score Bond 23 yet.

This seems to be based on something Arnold said after his talk on Bernard Herrmann at the ICA yesterday.
Interesting.

What the hell does HE know about Bernard Herrmann? (as the legendary Herrmann himself would say, with a few curse words added liberally)

you might get your wish of Arnold not doing bond 23's score and your upset about him talking about another musican?

But should he have been asked to return by this point? Maybe it's a little early.

He might know quite a lot about Hermann.
You dont know if he doesn't,if you'd have gone to this event, you may have found out.
But perhaps you dont want to give up another opportunity to have a bash, this time about something 'non bond related and about a subject you have no knowledge of arnolds' knowledge of.
Why so angry ???

I'm perfectly fine with Thomas Newman doing the score. I've got other choices, but Newman is the one I think will do this film. Especially with Sam Mendes on board for directing.

On Arnold's twitter he has said he hasnt been asked to return, and is specculating that he will be replaced. He also says he will be busy anyway in 2012 what with the Olypmics.
Looks like Arnold may be gone. Its a shame becasue I think he got really really food in CR and peaked in QOS. Its just a shame it took him 5 films to get into the gist of it. If he went into TND with the same attitute he approuched CR with, he may have rivalled Barry.

I guess I may be in the minority, but I think TND is his best score.

Hey guys. Ive been wondering about the opinions of others about the rumor...or was it confirmed that David Arnold would be coming back as composer. I think personally he has had a good run but we need something completely fresh for Bond 23.

What do you think?

(If he was confirmed composer that early, I think Eon was just being lazy B))

Do I want David Arnold to return?

No.
