As you can see, the director did a amazing job. What about having a scene like this for Bond 23? Just a pure car chase for 10mins with no soundtrack.
What do you think?

When I heard that Quantum Of Solace was going to start with a car chase, this is what I had in mind... it's quick but not too quick that you can't make out what's going on. It actually starts off fairly slow but the editing gets quicker towards the end. As compared to Quantum Of Solace with it's super fast blink and you'll miss it what's going on style.
Yeah I'd vote for something like this in Bond23!

Bond should have his own car chases, not a carbon copy of someone else's.

There's some great shots in there, though. It's very brutal, something that I would love Bond 23 to be. Fingers Crossed.

Ronin is well known for having one of the best car chases in movies. It was choreogaphed by Remy Julienne who had previously done lots of Bond movies.
I never knew that Remy worked on Ronin. Thanks for that trivia.

So it's okay to copy RONIN, but not okay to copy THE BOURNE ULTIMATUM?
Bond should have his own car chases, not a carbon copy of someone else's.
Movies are inspired by other movies. Technically, they don't "own" that entire idea, so it's okay for Bond to use is it not?

At least in my opinion, the RONIN style of chase fits BOND like a glove, compared to those of Bourne.
I agree, Frankenheimer (the guy who raced and filmed the sequences) should be in charge of the Second Unit. He's more than capable.
They should also bring back the British veteran Antony Gibbs to edit the film.

I would love for him to direct a Bond film. Too bad he's dead.

I'm thinking he thinks a dead man could direct QOS better than Marc Forster; is that right?I don't know. What are you thinking?

Doesn't that assume that Marc Forster isn't dead already...?

John Frankenheimer was the kind of seasoned genre pro that Eon refuse to hire. You have an experienced, talented director's eye calling the shots on the action sequences, rather than 2nd unit who robotically provided the whizzes & bangs of action, but no character...
That brings me to reason 2:
Robert DeNiro... Having Frankenheimer shooting the action, rather than a stunt co-ordinator means we keep the character at the centre of the action - Frankenheimer knows that unless we believe that the character believes it, then we certainly don't believe it. As good as the actors are, they need the director around to guide them through the endless, often out-of-sequence camera set-ups.
This chase is so gripping because as well as the action being well paced, the actor looks bloody terrified, focused and determined all the right times. Notice how low DeNiro sits behind the wheel - that's a bodies natural reaction when it thinks it might be crushed at any moment.
I believe the reason Martin Campbell always delivers is that he seems to love shooting the action - not content to let the 2nd unit get on with it. Michael Apted is a good filmmaker, but TWINE is pretty bad - the acting is better than many other Bonds, but the action is distant and mechanical - he was obviously happy to let the stunt guys just get on with it, while he concentrated on the acting scenes. The result is 2 different Bond movies cut together (just like the original Casino Royale was different directors cut together). OK, not that bad but getting there; every time i watch it i expect a jump cut with a moment of screen burn as the movie cuts between Apted and Vic Armstrong.
Great chase scene, well chosen DominicGreene.
