Given that there is a lul in activity, I figure I might throw this thread out.

Well?

Anyone know?

PS

It's a question/thread that wouldn't appear on a Star Wars or Harry Potter site...so I think we have an exclusive on the subject!!!

B)

PSS

I think I may know of one: Timothy Dalton may have had to smoke 'Lark' brand as that was a product tie-in for Licence To Smoke, um, I mean Kill.

I would agree with Lark in Licence to Kill. I have to look it up to be absolutely certain, but just going off of the look of it, it looks similar to the cigarette in the Lark commercial he did over in Japan. Which, I know, seems like a stupid way to judge, but cigarettes really do look different, if you actually give them a look instead of a passing glance. I don't recall the brand offhand, but I'm pretty sure Roger named what brand of cigar it was in the commentary for Live and Let Die. Yeah, not really being very helpful with this post, am I? Er, I'll get on research soon as I can.

Bryce (003) or even Loomis ought to be able to shed some, er, light on the subject.

I'll check back next week.

Have a great weekend everyone!

Timothy Dalton smoked Lark in Licence to Kill.
Claudine Auger smoked Gauloises in Thunderball.
That's all I know.

I remember reading that Dalton smoked Benson & Hedges personally during the TLD shoot.

Of course Brosnan only smoked a cigar onscreen in DAD and Craig has not smoked at all, although many ladies will say he was smoking in the beach scene B)

I'm afraid not. All I know is what he should have smoked: Benson & Hedges Special Filter. Doubt he did, though.

I don't know what kind was used in which Bond movies. Also what is the kind Bond personally somoked in the movies. I would think the Bond actors personally somked a cigar once in a while, not all the time like people would with cigarette. And cigars are always tied with high class, not lower middle class and middle class. I have always throught of the Bond actors not being like Brad Pitt, Tim Curry, Betty Davis and Ben Affleck smoking cigarette. More being like Arnold Schwarzenegger and John F. Kennedy when they smoke a cigar.

Connery, Lazenby, Moore, Dalton, Brosnan and Craig all are or were cigarette smokers...it would be interesting to know what brand they personally smoked. Most of them smoked cigars from a public persona point of view because it became less 'fashionable' to smoke cigarettes in front of paparazzi and the like.

I don't know about all of Moore's cigars, but in LALD, he smoked Monte Cristo Especials.

How come everyone is talking about the cigarettes/cigars that they smoked in the films? If you read the title of this thread, we're supposed to be discussing which brand each actor smoked off camera...

You go back and look at mine, I was more talking about what the Bond actor smoked, when they are not making a Bond movie. And my guess all of them smoked cigars one in while, like Arnold would outside of movie making. They all look like cigar type then cigarette.

I think Roger Moore smoked cigars in real life. But I'm pretty sure Timothy Dalton was a cigarette smoker (I don't know if he still is now).

Doesn't he take a puff or two during his introduction in Dr. No?

There are prop cigarettes that are quite realistic.

Actually, I assumed - wrongly, as it turns out - that this was meant to be a discussion of smoking in the films. However, the title of this thread does not make it clear that we're supposed to be discussing the Bond actors' real life fagging, so there's your answer to the question of "How come everyone is talking about the cigarettes/cigars that they smoked in the films?". B)

I happen to know that Russell Crowe smokes Benson & Hedges Gold, if anyone's interested.

Sorry, Righty. Mea culpa.

Anyway, Monte Cristo's got no promotional mention in the end credits, so it wouldn't surprise me if that had been Roger's personal smoke at the time.

I meant in real life.

There are black and white pictures of Connery and Lazenby smoking cigarettes on set, off camera.

Also, Brosnan and Craig definitely are or have been smokers. There was a shoot done for GQ magazine a couple of years ago with Brosnan smoking.

Dalton there's no question. Moore is the only one of the six for whom I have yet to see footage or photos of cigarette smoking. Cigar, yes...on set for FYEO, for example.

Perhaps my thread title is misleading but I didn't mean in films as James Bond.

Now that you mention it, I seem to recall a certain moment in the "Inside For Your Eyes Only" documentary in which Roger Moore is smoking a cigarette, this is when he wonders why they can't film at the St. Cyril's Monastery.

I quite recently watched an interview with Moore on you tube in which he mentioned buying and smoking a particular brand of cig in his youth. If my memory serves, I believe the video was called 'Roger Moore, Best of British'. The whole vid is recommended.
Also in the doc 'Bond Girls are Forever' one of the actresses from LTK mentions the brand TD smoked on set, but off camera. Again, if memory serves, I think it was Silk Cut.

Hmmm...Silk Cut was popular 20 years ago...They sponsored the Jaguar sportscar team in the WSC (World Sportscar Championships) in the late 1980s, if memory serves.

Just checked my copy of Bond Girls are Forever and it is Silk Cut that's mentioned. It comes in a conversation between Maryam d'Abo and Carey Lowell.

Brosnan from 2004 when Ireland banned smoking in pubs, etc:

"Suave actor PIERCE BROSNAN has attacked his native Ireland for its recent ban on smoking in public places.

The 51-year-old complains he has to travel to London to enjoy cigarettes and alcohol with friends, because the new law has destroyed pub culture in his homeland.

He says, "I can only enjoy the boozer in London. In Ireland you can't smoke, so that's slowly changing pub culture. It's a shame. The old cigarettes are good.

"When you are with a bunch of mates at 3am and the ciggies are flying around and you're shooting the breeze, owning the world, ruling the universe and having the best ideas, ciggies are great."

16/12/2004 17:46 "

B) You gotta love Pierce. Inadvertant comedy!

Something gives me the impression that you don't have much time for Graham, nonetheless, if you look at your book, you'll find that it wasn't Graham in any form that wrote Bond Girls Are Forever, but Maryam d'Abo with John Cork - so is it perhaps John Cork that you think is "nasty"?

Graham did however write The James Bond Girls, which is a great book if you can get hold of a copy.

Yes...You're absolutely correct! It's The James Bond Girls which I have, not Bond Girls Are Forever. Sorry.

And, yes...i'm not a fan of Graham Rye. Some don't like him for their own reasons. I think he fell in my eyes as a result of his B) 'review' of Quantum Of Solace which was riddled with errors and for which he gave an immature 1 out of 10.

Didn't Rog have unlimited cigars as part of his contract? I heard that somewhere years ago, and wanted it to be true, so I believed it B)
